Nagpur Zilla Sainik Welfare Office surpasses armed forces flag day fund target
Nagpur: The Zilla Sainik Welfare Office (ZSWO) for Nagpur district has already surpassed the targets for garnering contributions to the
Armed Forces Flag Day Fund
from the general public. With Rs2.42 crore collected, the ZSWO surpassed the target by 20%, said with seven months to go for the year to end, the officials expect a sizeable amount to be netted in at the end of the period.
The 12-month period for calculating the contributions starts from December. This is because December 7 is observed as Armed Forces Flag Day, a practice that began in is a state govt agency with offices in each district and has a mandate to work for veterans' welfare, getting contributions is also part of its work. It is the first time in at least the recent past that the office has been able to collect beyond the yearly targets in just five months. The funds are used for veterans' welfare, including compensation of Rs1 crore payable to martyred and injured contributions also came from the sale of small flags to school children. The current practice is to tap the offices under the state govt, with the money coming as voluntary contributions from the (Retd) Anand Patharkar, the Zilla Sainik Officer at Nagpur, said his team carried out a hectic campaign, contacting govt offices at the smallest places in the district, leading to a boost in contributions.
