Lazio defeat 10-men Milan at the death in controversial Serie A clash

Pedro scored in the eighth minute of injury time to hand Lazio a controversial 2-1 win over 10-man Milan at the San Chukwueze 84'; Zaccagni 28', Pedro (pen) 90+8' After an even enough opening 15 minutes to the game, Lazio began to take control and deservedly took the lead just before the half hour mark through their captain and main man, Mattia Zaccagni. Capitalising on some lax Milan defending, they broke with Adam Marušić eventually taking aim at Mike Maignan. The French goalkeeper could only parry the ball into the path of Zaccagni, who slid in to tap home from close range. João Félix came on just before the break for Yunus Musah, who appeared to have an injury, but he could not spark the Rossoneri into action, and they struggled to create chances. Their hopes of a comeback were severely dented in the 67th minute when Strahinja Pavlović was given a straight red card for a challenge on Gustav Isaksen. The Lazio winger had just got ahead of the Milan defender when he lunged in, but given there was other defenders in close proximity, it felt a relatively harsh decision. However, Lazio could not get the second and, with just six minutes left on the clock, substitute Samuel Chukwueze made them pay. Rafael Leão's inswinger from the left was inviting, but the Nigerian winger did brilliantly to power a header high past Ivan Provedel to send the San Siro wild. Both sides battled until the end looking for a winner, but Lazio were the ones to get it via the penalty spot after Maignan was controversially ruled to have fouled Isaksen. Amid whistles and boos from the home end, Pedro stepped up to coolly send the keeper the wrong way with almost the last kick of the game. The win pushes Lazio past Bologna and Juventus, and into top four for at least 24 hours. 📸 PIERO CRUCIATTI - AFP or licensors

Zaccagni reveals Italy goal and message from Del Piero

Lazio star Mattia Zaccagni says his target is 'always' to be part of Italy's national team and reveals he 'often speaks' with his idol and Azzurri legend Alessandro Del Piero. Zaccagni is having a great season at Lazio, with nine goals and eight assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. 'We are on a very positive path, and it takes a lot of little things, many small details, to achieve that, starting with the work of the club, the work of the technical staff, and the work of the medical staff. So we're all doing a great job, and we are very happy with this,' the Italy international told TLN TV. 'The goal is always to take the field and have fun because it means you are doing the right things if you enjoy. We always try to give 110% on the field, which is what the coach asks of us. He says everything becomes easier if we have that humility and eagerness to win games. We do not set limits. We know we can be a strong team that can achieve great goals, but our goal is always the game that comes next.' Lazio appointed Marco Baroni last summer, replacing Igor Tudor. 'I am very free in the field. Baroni gives me so much freedom to stay wide and come inside. I really like this,' said Zaccagni. 'Then Guendouzi and Rovella are both having a fantastic season. 'When I score goals, especially at the Stadio Olimpico and on the side of the Curva Nord,' the Italian winger continued. 'I instinctively feel like going under the Curva and under the fans. It is a special feeling that is difficult to find every day. Receiving this warmth and affection from our fans is nice. 'The archer celebration was born when I arrived at Lazio. I like it, so I carry it on. I am having a beautiful season, but my goal is always improving myself. My goal is to improve my stats and performance.' Zaccagni scored a vital goal for Italy at the Euros last summer but has played just four minutes with the Azzurri since. 'Being part of the national team is always fantastic. My goal is always to be in the group, obviously respecting the coach's choices, but I work every day for this,' he said. 'From when I was little, Alessandro Del Piero has been my idol. I studied his shots, goals, and performances. He messaged me after the game against Monza. We have spoken often, also after the goal I scored in EURO 2024, so we have a good relationship.'

Lazio Star Mattia Zaccagni Recalls Earliest Football Memories: 'I Was Born on the Beach'

Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni returned to his first steps in football, explaining how his passion for the Beautiful Game started at a tender age. The 29-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in Serie A, especially following his transfer to the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2021. The winger still enjoys himself on the pitch as evidenced by the flicks and tricks he pulls off in almost every match. In his interview with The Laziali Founder & TLN TV Serie A Host Steven Moore, Zaccagni was asked about his father's role in his passion for the sport, as the latter was a footballer himself, albeit at the amateur level. But as the Lazio star explained, his relationship with football was pretty much instinctive. Yes, dad always passed on this passion of his that he had. But there wasn't even that much need to transmit it to me because it was something I had inside anyway and I already felt it. As soon as I turned four, they signed me up to soccer school because they couldn't keep me in the house anymore as I would break the picture frames so it was better to send me to the soccer field. Then I was born on the beach where I always had fun with the ball. Zaccagni is enjoying a wonderful campaign on a personal level, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists already. However, he insists he's still aiming to further improve his figures. I am certainly having a beautiful season but my goal, like you said, is to always evolve. Therefore, my objective is to improve my stats and performances.
