Award for popular postmaster who's been serving community in Livingston for 30 years
Iqbal Mohammed has run shops in the area since 1975 and took on the Post Office with his wife Zahida A popular postmaster who has been running shops in West Lothian for the last 50 years has received a special award for his service at the heart of the community. Iqbal Mohammed has been running Livingston Village Post Office for 30 years and to mark the milestone he was presented with a Long Service Award by Post Office Area Manager Brian McNaughton. Iqbal has run shops in the Livingston area since 1975 and the opportunity arose in 1995 to take on Livingston Village Post Office with his wife Zahida. The couple are very well known in the area. They modernised the newsagents and convenience store and Zahida worked on the retail side for most of that time, until she sadly she passed away in October. At first their eldest daughter Shazia worked in the family business and their younger daughter, Nadia, is also Post Office trained. They also employ local people. Iqbal will forever be grateful to former neighbours, John and Ella Gilbert who helped them greatly when they started. John had just retired as a long-serving postmaster in Armadale and really helped them to settle quickly into the role of running a Post Office with all of the required knowledge of products and services. Postmaster Iqbal Mohammed said: 'The best thing about being a postmaster is that I enjoy meeting people and everyone knows me. They cared when my wife died as Zahida had been a big part of this shop and we loved helping the community. 'We got to know people really well and we have enjoyed conversations and a laugh with customers. My wife would often give sweets to little kids coming into the shop. 'We managed to keep the Post Office and shop open throughout the pandemic, even though Zahida had underlying health conditions, as we wanted to maintain vital services to our village.' Post Office Area Manager, Brian McNaughton, said: 'I want to really thank Iqbal for being the postmaster for Livingston Village for the past three decades. He and his late wife, Zahida, who was also a lovely person, have been at the heart of this community and have enriched the lives of people living in the village for a long time as well as new people who have moved to the community with the extra housing built.'

The Newcastle native star, 30, revealed she is just days away from giving birth to a baby girl after keeping her pregnancy a secret. Cradling her baby bump, she wrote: 'A special announcement.. Mini Z coming very soon - May 2025'. Zahida looked stunning in a gallery of pink-themed snaps as she showed off her bump while holding up the baby scan. In a lengthy statement, she continued: 'For a while, I didn't know how to put this into words, but I am choosing to finally share this news publicly with you, as I finally feel it's the right time. 'I found out about my pregnancy very late, I never thought I would be one of them people who didn't have any symptoms and my body didn't change either for a long time, so I had no clue. 'I had other health issues with my stomach and kidneys and upon getting countless appointments and investigation, there was little baby Z loving her little life in the womb.' She continued: 'This news completely changed my life, but for the better. 'I chose to keep this news private and only share with family and best friends, until I felt ready. I hope everyone understands and respects why I made this decision. 'We have had some beautiful memories together with the bump, I'm deeply thankful to these important people in my life who have let me feel nothing but love and take many stresses and worries away. I feel lucky to have such amazing and pure love and support around me. 'I will never forget this period of time in my life and those who supported me, I am eternally grateful.' Zahida also emotionally opened up about the loss of her father and said she has been 'grieving him all over again' and she feels 'heavily connected' to him again. She shared: 'I imagined my dad would be here to meet his grandchild, so I grieved him all over again because it was my dad's dream to become a grandad. 'Some of his final words to me were "I am leaving all my prayers and blessings to you and your baby girl". 'I feel this was the baby my dad was speaking about, and I feel him and her are heavily connected through ways I can't even explain.' Zahida then revealed that all of the cravings she has had during her pregnancy have been what she fed her dad at the end of his life. She continued: 'The cravings I have had were all the things I was feeding my dad at the end of his life and how beautiful now I get to have those things for the beginning of new life - my baby. 'But this is not a sad post, it's a happy one. I am a hugely family orientated person, no matter how far in the world I've gone, my core is my family. 'So my baby is the biggest blessing of my life, I have felt so lucky to be carrying her all this time, feeling her grow and feeling her little kicks become big ones. 'Despite how uncomfortable it feels when she digs her foot between my ribs, this journey has been fascinating and magical and have loved being pregnant and snuggling my belly at night knowing my baby is in there.' Zahida went on to say the baby is 'the biggest blessing' of her life and she can't wait to start her next chapter. She concluded: 'For me, my life isn't ending, it's just beginning again and I am so excited to welcome my little miracle into the world and begin this next chapter of my life, becoming a mama. 'To all parents and those who are doing it alone, or are going to be doing it alone, you are so strong and I have SO MUCH respect and admiration for you. You should be incredibly proud of yourself.
