Sam Burgess' first words on Musgrove departure with recruitment hint given
SAM Burgess opted not to go into detail about Zane Musgrove's sudden departure from Warrington Wolves. Instead, he expressed his hope that his former South Sydney Rabbitohs teammate can get himself going again after dropping into the Championship to join Oldham. Following what is understood to have been an internal disciplinary issue, The Wire confirmed Musgrove's departure with immediate effect on Friday morning. He had been set to leave the club at the end of the season regardless with his contract edging towards expiry, but his future for 2026 is now secure having signed an 18-month deal with Oldham. When given the chance to comment on Musgrove's departure for the first time, however, Burgess was in no mood to satisfy any thirst for gossip. 'I commented on it pre-game – I'm not going to go into any detail which I think everybody's after, but we dealt with everything internally,' he said following Friday's 31-12 defeat to Hull KR. 'We went through a great process with it, and Zane has been picked up by Oldham which is great for him. 'Hopefully he gets to go and play some great rugby and get himself back on the field.' Musgrove's departure does give Warrington some room to manoeuvre in terms of bringing players to the club mid-season, with salary cap space and an overseas quota spot now available for use. While he did not rule out using the newly-created space to draft in reinforcements, however, Burgess said nothing should be expected imminently. 'Nothing straight away,' he said when asked if he was looking to replace Musgrove immediately. 'It does give us some flexibility but there's nothing we're looking at right away. 'We'll try and be targeted in our approach and we'll see what unfolds over the next month or two if we can add to the roster.'

Musgrove leaves Warrington Wolves to join Oldham
Prop Zane Musgrove has left Warrington Wolves and joined Championship side Oldham with immediate effect. The 29-year-old forward was a mainstay last season, making 28 appearances as Warrington finished third in the Super League before losing to Hull KR in the play-off semi-final. Musgrove has also made 10 appearances for this season's Challenge Cup finalists but has now signed an 18-month deal with Oldham. "It's a very exciting opportunity and I know what I am going to bring to this team," Musgrove told Oldham's Roughyeds TV. "I want to win stuff and looking at the Championship, that is the first thing I want to go and win." Oldham head coach Sean Long said Musgrove's arrival was a "major signing" for the club. "We thank Zane for his contribution during his time at the Wire and wish him well in the next chapter of his career," Warrington said in a statement on the club website.
