The United Arab Emirates continues its longstanding and steadfast commitment to providing humanitarian and relief assistance to the brotherly people of Sudan, aiming to alleviate the impact of the crisis that began in April 2023. The UAE's efforts prioritise addressing the dire humanitarian situation and adopt a civilian-focused approach. Since the outbreak of the conflict, the UAE has provided $600.4 million in humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people, including a $200 million pledge made at the High-Level Humanitarian Conference for the People of Sudan held in Addis Ababa on Feb.14, 2025. Over the past ten years, the UAE's humanitarian contributions to Sudan have totalled US$3.5 billion. Throughout two years of conflict, the UAE's initiatives and humanitarian aid have served as a vital lifeline for millions affected by the ongoing crisis. More than two million Sudanese have directly benefited from these efforts. The UAE launched an air bridge that deployed 162 aircraft carrying essential food, medical, and relief supplies. In addition, the UAE dispatched multiple humanitarian aid ships to support those affected within Sudan as well as Sudanese refugees in Chad and Uganda, delivering 13,168 tonnes of food, medical, and relief items. This included 6,388 tonnes of food aid and 280 tonnes of medical supplies for those inside Sudan, 6,000 tonnes for Sudanese refugees in Chad, 200 tonnes for those in Uganda, and 300 tonnes to meet urgent needs in South Sudan. Health support has been a key priority, with the UAE constructing two field hospitals in Amdjarass and Abéché in Chad, which have so far treated 90,889 patients. A hospital was also opened in Madhol, Bahr Al Ghazal, South Sudan. Additionally, the UAE has supported 127 health facilities across 14 Sudanese states. The UAE has allocated US$70 million to UN agencies and humanitarian organisations in Sudan, including US$25 million to the World Food Programme, US$20 million to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, $8 million to the World Health Organization, US$5 million each to the Food and Agriculture Organization and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and $7 million to UNICEF. The UAE also committed $30 million to support refugees in neighbouring countries, and announced an additional $10.25 million to the UN to assist Sudanese refugee women affected by the crisis. In support of education, the UAE signed a $4 million agreement with UNICEF to support Sudanese refugee education in Chad. Sudan has long been a central focus of the UAE's humanitarian work, beginning in the 1970s when the UAE's Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, supported the development of the Haiya-Port Sudan Road, which played a pivotal role in the country's commercial, industrial and agricultural growth. Since then, the UAE has continued to launch developmental and economic projects in Sudan, boosting foreign investment, creating job opportunities, and offering consistent humanitarian support during times of crisis. UAE-Jordanian camp residents receive Ramadan meals
The administration of the UAE-Jordanian camp in Mrajeeb Al Fhood continues its humanitarian initiatives throughout the holy month of Ramadan. To mark Zayed Humanitarian Day, Ramadan Iftar meals were distributed among the camp residents, including Syrian refugees and underprivileged families living in informal shelters outside the camp. Saif Khalifa Al Suwaidi, head of the UAE relief team, said that this initiative honours the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE. "Since the beginning of the holy month, we have launched several humanitarian initiatives to support our refugee brothers and underprivileged families in Jordan. This includes distributing food parcels through registered charities across the Kingdom, continuing Sheikh Zayed's path of humanitarian work,' he expalined. The meal distribution coincided with the conclusion of the camp's Ramadan Sports Tournament, which drew a large audience of UAE relief team volunteers and camp residents, fostering a vibrant and competitive spirit during the holy month. Al Suwaidi noted that the tournament has become an annual tradition, aimed at strengthening bonds among camp residents, promoting a culture of sports, physical fitness, and instilling a sense of positivity among the youth. Four teams participated in the tournament: the Emirates Red Crescent, the Jordanian Security in Mrajeeb Al Fhood, the Jordanian Security at Mukhayzin Al Gharbi-Al Azraq camp, and a team representing the Mrajeeb Al Fhood residents. The competition included football, volleyball, and a spirited tug-of-war contest.
