"Reality shows are a blessing for aspiring singers; they act as a launchpad for raw talent and give them a space in the industry," says Arjun Janya on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Kannada
Celebrated music director
Arjun Janya
, who has composed for countless chartbusters and given Kannada cinema some of its most memorable melodies, opens up about his journey as a judge on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Kannada.
The show, which has consistently been a launchpad for aspiring talents, holds a special place in his heart.
Interestingly, this time, the much-awaited grand finale of
Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Kannada
will be airing live on Zee5 Kannada, bringing with it a culmination of musical brilliance, emotions, and dreams realized.
'It's not just a show, it's a celebration of life.'
Speaking about his experience on the show, Arjun gets emotional. 'I'm proud to be a part of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Kannada.
It's divine. I am happy, and honestly, overwhelmed by the journey. I've introduced a minimum of 15 singers from this platform into the music industry, and that number keeps growing.'
The composer describes the show as a 'roller coaster of emotions,' where the entire team—judges, contestants, and audience—celebrate music and life together.
'This show is like family. We laugh, we cry, we create… and above all, we witness dreams taking shape every single day.'

On balancing honesty with motivation
For Arjun, being truthful to contestants doesn't mean being harsh—it means being responsible. 'Being honest is the easiest and most important thing. I see where the contestants have started, and I try to understand their roots, their musical influences, and their interests. My feedback is always designed to help them evolve,' he explains.
"Constructive criticism, when done with love, pushes them to grow. I make it a point to tell them what they're doing right, not just what they need to improve."
On the role of reality shows in discovering talent
Arjun firmly believes that music-based reality shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Kannada have revolutionized talent discovery in India.
"These platforms are a blessing for aspiring singers. They don't just get exposure; they get guidance, industry connections, stage presence, and real-time audience feedback. Some singers wait for years for a break, this show gives them that leap in just weeks."
He adds that several contestants from the show have gone on to become successful playback singers.
'Many of them are now doing regular concerts, working with top composers, and supporting their families through music. That's the real victory of this show.'
On competition in the industry
Competition is inevitable, says Arjun—but it's not something to fear. 'Yes, there is competition everywhere. Even I have competition. But what matters is how you deal with it. One should use it to improve their craft, not get discouraged.'
"Let talent push you to polish your skills.
Talent should never be threatened by talent. It should inspire."
'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has given life to many.'
Reflecting on the show's legacy, Arjun Janya says,
"This platform has not just created singers, it has helped people build lives. So many of them now have families, stable incomes, and recognition. They are living the dream they once only imagined."
