Seven Point Dispensary to expand in Danville after approval of consumption lounge
DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Danville's City Council voted to approve two ordinance amendments Tuesday night. One now allows customers to consume cannabis inside lounges, another which amends the Danville City Code related to cannabis consumption facilities.
In February, the proposal for a zoning ordinance amendment to allow lounges where customers can consume cannabis on-site failed, despite winning a majority vote, because it required eight people to approve the ordinance.

The ordinance came to the council after Seven Point, a dispensary in Danville, hoped to expand its business. But, some City Council members weren't at the meeting in February so there weren't enough votes.
During the Tuesday night meeting, supporters and opponents of the change spoke up during public comment. Before the council could vote to approve the ordinances, however, they first had to vote to 'reconsider' the votes since it failed last meeting.
Both motions to reconsider the vote passed, as did both ordinances.
Seven Point CEO Brad Zerman told WCIA that the goal is to create a place where people can hangout and smoke marijuana safely.
'There's not that much to do in Danville. So, I'm not sure, you know, who's really behind the effort to get rid of the lounge. But, you know, all there is to do around here is this casino,' Zerman said.

During the meeting, the City Council also approved an amendment to ensure that drivers are being safe after leaving the lounge. The previous language of Chapter 91: Cannabis Consumption Facility stated:
'A Licensed Cannabis Consumption Facility shall not permit unsealed cannabis to leavethe facility, except as approved by the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act asamended.'
Now, it's changed to:
'A Licensed Cannabis Consumption Facility shall not permit unsealed cannabis to leavethe facility unless the cannabis is in a reasonably secured, and sealed container with tamper evident tape, that cannot be immediately accessible to the driver of the vehicle leaving the facility.'
