Massachusetts man charged for driving 130MPH in Connecticut
WILLINGTON, CT. (WWLP) – A man from Massachusetts is facing charges for allegedly driving double the speed limit on I-84 in Willington, Connecticut. Bradley International Airport experiencing air traffic controller shortage Connecticut State Police say 21-year-old Zhenyang Xu was going 130 mph and weaving through lanes when troopers clocked him. Xu was stopped at Exit 70 in Willington, according to WTNH. He allegedly told officers he was in a rush to see a sick friend in New York. he's being charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and six counts of improper passing. He was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 24th. Man accused of going 130 mph on Interstate 84 told trooper he was rushing to see sick friend
A Massachusetts man was arrested for allegedly going 130 mph on Interstate 84 in Union over the weekend while reportedly rushing to see his sick friend. The driver was spotted Saturday around 11 a.m. on I-84 West as a trooper was conducting speed enforcement in the area of Exit 74, according to Connecticut State Police. State police said the vehicle, a gray Tesla, was going at a speed that was 'well above' the speed limit. The trooper moved onto the highway in an attempt to catch up with the driver. State police claimed that it took several miles to catch the Tesla because of how fast it was going. The Tesla driver was also seen using three lanes to pass other motorists, according to state police. Once the trooper got behind the Tesla he reportedly clocked the vehicle at 130 mph, state police said. The driver pulled over when instructed to do so in the area of Exit 70 in Willington. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Zhenyang Xu of Boston, Massachusetts. According to state police, Xu told the trooper he was going fast because he was in a rush to see his sick friend in New York. He was arrested and charged with six counts of improper passing and a single count of reckless driving and failure to maintain the proper lane. Xu was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Feb. 24.
