Graeme McDowell's comment after banking €1.6 million speaks volumes about him
Graeme McDowell was all class as he shared the runner-up spot at LIV Golf Virginia. McDowell chalked up his top result of the LIV season to date – landing second on Sunday, just behind winner Joaquin Niemann who secured his fourth 2025 victory. The Portrush native, alongside Anirban Lahiri, pocketed a tidy €1.6 million for their efforts at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Showing true sportsmanship, 45-year-old McDowell was quick to heap praise on his fellow competitors after the triumph. The event saw some of LIV's heavyweights, like Bubba Watson, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson and Jon Rahm, making a mark, yet McDowell edged out this illustrious group to finish near the very top. "Nice to be up there with names like that," he remarked when asked about the calibre of players. "Those are pretty good names. I think it speaks to the golf course. "I think it speaks to the fact that it was a - it required a bit of thought. It required a little bit of cunning, if you like, and I think that's why so many experienced players played well. "I think it's a wonderful track. Obviously shout-out to the maintenance crew for the work they did to get the course ready after the rain. I really enjoyed the golf course. It was a great setup and the type of venue that LIV deserves here in the US." McDowell's heartfelt mention of the tireless maintenance workers and greens staff upon his latest performance speaks volumes about his character. Even though he didn't scoop the top €3.6m prize at the Virginia event, his stout finish and sizeable seven-figure earnings are just as sweet for the golfer who has often been missing from the winner's circle. Assessing his achievement on the leaderboard, prior to this high-pressure weekend in Virginia, McDowell was sharing 12th place as his pinnacle for 2025, measured during a tournament in Hong Kong. Sunday saw him notch his most impressive result within the LIV Golf circuit yet, nabbing second place just shy of victory, building on three top-10 placements accrued last year, reports Belfast Live. Nevertheless, his thoughts were immediately with those whose hard work made the event's smooth run possible – showing gratitude when most might be soaking up their own success. Meanwhile, Niemann's recent triumph in Virginia consolidates his standing as the reigning heavyweight of LIV Golf, forging ahead with a healthy lead above DeChambeau in the rankings. Next on the LIV Golf calendar is Dallas, returning as a familiar host from last year's Team Championship. McDowell currently sits in 25th place, just outside the 'Lock Zone'. The top 24 players in any LIV Golf campaign are guaranteed a spot in the following year's competition, though exceptions can be made for certain players. This was the case for McDowell after he finished both the 2023 and 2024 seasons in the 'Open Zone'. However, it seems he's well respected on the tour as Smash GC captain Brooks Koepka chose to keep him on board regardless.

Tribals up in arms against establishment of Tiger Zone
Asifabad: The tribals here are strongly opposing the government's declaration of Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district as a Tiger Zone in the name of Conservation of Forest. 113 blocks and 339 villages under the Asifabad, Sirpur Kagaznagar forest divisions of the district are coming under the Tiger Zone. The government issued GO 49 on the 30th of this month in the name of conservation forest, bringing about 16,000 hectares of land into this. Thus, the government's intention seems to be to protect tigers and wildlife, as well as to preserve the endangered forest wealth. The Tadoba and Tippeshwar sanctuaries in Maharashtra, which are neighboring the forest area of the district, are adjacent. From there, big tigers come and go to the district every season. They are trying to establish a habitat here. But due to various reasons, the tigers are returning. The tigers that have established a habitat are dying due to poachers. Keeping all this in mind, the Forest officials themselves say that the government has brought the forest area of the district along with the non-forest land under the tiger zone. But the people of the district are angry about this government decision. In particular, the tribals who rely on the forests are expressing the opinion that the establishment of the tiger zone has put their survival in question. The reserve forest regulations have already become an obstacle to the development of tribal areas, and now with the establishment of the tiger zone, conspiracies are being hatched to drive away the Giri sons, said the state president Kotnaka Vijay. He lashed out at the Central and state governments that the love for tigers does not belong to the tribals. He said that if the government's decision is to suspend house construction permits in villages, there will be a situation where bore wells will also be dug. He warned that the tribals' agitation will not stop until this GO is withdrawn. As part of this, a protest rally will be organized in the district center under the auspices of Tudum Deb on Saturday. On the other hand, political parties are also raising their voices against the Tiger Zone. Former Sirpur MLA Konappa submitted a petition to the Additional Collector demanding the withdrawal of 49 GO issued by the government in the name of Conservation Forest, while Asifabad MLA Kovalakshmi warned that they will embark on a hunger strike to death against the Tiger Zone. In this context, the Tiger Zone movement is likely to take a serious turn. Meanwhile, PCCF Suvarna, who visited the district two days ago, assured that the people will not face any problems due to the establishment of the Tiger Zone. He said that with the funds coming from the Central and state governments for the development of this area, employment opportunities will improve for the people. aid.

It is one of the most sought-after concerts to come to Scotland this year, with tickets being snapped up within hours of them going on sale in September. Now, a rival gig to this summer's iconic Oasis tour is to be held in Edinburgh metres away from where Noel and Liam Gallagher will be taking to the stage at the same time in Murrayfield Stadium. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Murrayfield Ice Arena, which is located next door to the stadium where the Oasis concert will take place, is to hold an Oasis tribute band gig in its bar on 8, 9 and 12 August: the same days the brothers play their set in Scotland. Definitely Oasis is to play at the rink's bar, at a cost of £10 a ticket for adults and £5 for children - a far cry from the hundreds of pounds a ticket being charged on second hand ticket sale sites for the real Oasis concert. While the Oasis tour sold out shortly after it went on sale in September, some tickets are available on resale. The highest price tickets were due to be sold for when they were first released were £270 each for a VIP package. Pitched as an alternative for people who have 'missed out' on tickets for the main concert, the ice rink, which has been turned into a roller rink for the summer, urged people to 'beat the crowds and potentially the weather', by attending its gig, which also includes performances by a Stone Roses tribute band and a DJ. According to the tribute band's website, it has toured extensively across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, filling 'iconic' venues to capacity, including Glasgow's O2 Academy and Barrowland Ballroom, Edinburgh's Liquid Rooms and London's O2 Academy Islington. Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis | Simon Emmett/Fear PR/PA Wire They have also paid tribute to Oasis's roots by performing at historic venues where the band played in their early years, including The Joiners in Southampton, Tivoli in Buckley, La Belle Angele in Edinburgh, and King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow - where Oasis is said to have been first discovered. German firm's Senai manufacturing facility a boost to state's industrial landscape
(From second left) Gan, Suresh Kumar, SICK supervisory board member Sebastian Glaser (sixth from left) and Lee (fifth from right) at the groundbreaking ceremony of SICK Malaysia's new factory. A GERMAN manufacturer has identified Johor's Senai Airport City for its operations, marking another milestone in the integrated development as a regional industrial hub. SICK Malaysia managing director Suresh Kumar Somasundram said the group manufactured sensor-based industrial automation solutions and the new factory would strengthen its supply chain and operational efficiency. 'The facility is designed to enhance production capabilities, improve operational efficiency and support sustainable growth in the Asia-Pacific region. 'With its strategic location in Senai Airport City, Johor, which is close to our key markets, the new factory will play an important role in SICK's long-term success,' he said in a statement. The groundbreaking ceremony of the manufacturing facility was attended by Johor investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman Lee Ting Han. In his speech, Lee said the project was more than just an expansion for SICK, but a transformation of Johor's industrial landscape. 'This ceremony reinforces Johor's standing as a preferred destination for high-value, innovation-driven industries. 'It also demonstrates the potential for international companies to grow alongside our local communities,' Lee said. He said phase one of the project, scheduled for completion next year, would see investments totalling RM280mil. 'By the final phase five, likely before 2045, total investment is expected to reach RM1bil. 'The total investment by SICK is projected to generate up to 2,500 jobs,' he said. Senai Airport City chief executive officer Gan Seng Keong said that the master-planned industrial development spanning over 1,099ha continued to attract global companies seeking strategic positioning in South-East Asia. 'The decision by a global leader like SICK to establish its advanced manufacturing hub here is a strong endorsement of our infrastructure readiness, world-class connectivity and strategic location. 'With 85% of our Free Zone land occupied, our expansion of the Free Zone from 161ha to 263ha further underscores its strategic importance,' he said, adding that this would enhance competitiveness and reinforce its contribution to Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
