Silver for para surfer Zubeida
Zubeida Bux (56) made an inspiring splash at the SA Parasurfing Championships in Durban last weekend.
The well-known South Coast ' surfer chick' took second place while representing KwaZulu-Natal in the Prone 2 division. Her total score was 10.43 behind winner Nolu Makalima on 13.77.
For Zubeida, the event was more than a competition – it was a celebration of freedom, strength and doing what she loves.
She has now successfully competed in four championships. ' I felt so alive out there. I absolutely love being in the water, and it's where I feel free. Without the amazing volunteers and coaches from Made For More, this wouldn't be possible. Their dedication and support means everything, ' said Zubeida.
Born in Port Shepstone into the Moosa Bux family, her first major challenge was when she contracted polio at a young age, which left her wheelchair-bound.
However, she has embraced life with open arms and continues to prove that no obstacle is too great when you have a strong mind and an even stronger heart.
She looks forward to next year's event and thanks everyone for their support and encouragement.
