Zunzibar's St. Patrick's Day Shot-Ski for Hunger Relief
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – This St. Patrick's Day, Zunzibar is raising the bar in aiming to break the world record —while pouring plenty of green drinks for a good cause.
It's a celebration you can sip on all weekend and contribute to helping fight hunger in the community.
Savannah knows how to party, and this year, they're tying in a good cause with it! The business is hoping over 1,000 people will gather on Drayton Street to break the world record for the longest shot-ski…. all while raising money for Second Harvest. The world record has been battled out by ski towns, but now Savannah is throwing their hat in the ring.
The festivities begin Friday with a 'practice round' at Zunzibar on Tybee Island at 6 p.m.
The big event, to beat the world record, will take place at 9:30 a.m. at Savannah's Zunzibar. They ask people to line up around 9 a.m. and there will be shot skis lined up the road in trash cans. The event asks you to bring your own beverage, but afterwards, participants will be awarded free shots.
Surrounding the celebration is helping end hunger within the Coastal Empire
'We just thought if we broke the world record for the shot-ski that we would donate 26,000 dollars, which is our lucky number, 26, to Second Harvest because they do unbelievable things in the community,' shared Chris Smith, the Zunzibar owner.
Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, a nonprofit that provides millions of meals to families in need, is teaming up with Zunzibar this month.
'They do unbelievable things in this community. One of the things I think that breaks my heart, at this stage of the world, is that people are still hungry – especially in our communities. And they take a very small amount and do an unbelievable impact level with it,' shared Smith.
If you want to get in on the action, all you need to do is RSVP 'SHOTSKI' to 912-207-7551. Zunzibar will donate 1 dollar for every RSVP towards Second Harvest.
If they succeed, they'll be raising more than just glasses! They'll be raising thousands to help fight hunger. So grab your shot-ski and your green gear because this year's St. Patrick's celebration is about to be extra special.
