Robert Gifford, 54, of Rochester, the driver of the dump truck, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.
Shortly before noon Friday, the Ossipee Police Department responded to a report of a crash on Route 28, where a Mack dump truck driven by Gifford had collided with a Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Marshall, officials said. Officers requested assistance from the State Police troopers and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit.
The investigation determined that Gifford was traveling northbound on Route 28 when he lost control of the dump truck. The truck rolled over and struck Marshall's SUV, which was traveling in the opposite direction, officials said. Gifford was not injured, while Marshall was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.
Gifford is being held at the Carroll County Department of Corrections pending an arraignment scheduled for Monday.
Route 28 was closed for approximately 7½ hours while officials investigated and cleaned up the scene.
