Millions of drivers with 'one little button' on car dashboard urged to act
Millions of drivers with one little button in their motors have been urged to act. Road users can save fuel by pressing "one simple button" located in every vehicle, in a major boost as the Cost of Living crisis continues. YouTube channel @antosvids said: 'Today I'm going to show you how to save fuel by pressing one simple button in your car. It's this little button here, which is the air recirculation button. If you're using your air con and you use this button it helps reduce the strain on the system. 'It also helps stop pollen coming from outside. It can save fuel by reducing the strain. So if you want to save the fuel in your car, press this little button here.' READ MORE: Easyjet warns UK tourists flying to Turkey over 'entry requirements' they face The recirculation button is actually a setting on your vehicle's air conditioning system. It redirects air from within the vehicle back into the AC system to be cooled again. This keeps the cabin cooler for longer. When you press it, your air conditioner will limit or shut off the amount of outside air it brings into the cabin. Your AC unit will continue to circulate already-cooled air within the vehicle itself. This can help maintain optimal temperatures quicker than if you were relying on outside air. It's also helpful during times when heavy pollutants are in the outside environment. Like pollen, smog, or smoke from nearby fires. Lou's Car Care explains: "The key to using the recirculate button is understanding when it should be used. If you need to cool down your car quickly, only use your AC system to pull in outside air. "This will cool off faster than recycled air. The recirculation button will reduce the amount of external contaminants entering your car. This is useful while driving at highway speeds or in areas with high levels of pollution. "Another useful tip is activating the recirculate mode right after starting your car. Let it run for some time before turning off the function. This the inside temperatures become more comfortable. "And allows your AC system more time to cool down without having to pull in hot outside air while doing so. This can also reduce outside pollutants from entering your vehicle. And improve passenger comfort and safety."

Tenant rights group calls for greater protection against dangerous heat
London ACORN is calling on council to keep Londoners from unsafe heat in their homes during the summer. With summer heatwaves on the way, tenant advocacy group London ACORN held a rally outside city hall. About 20 members called on City Council to better protect vulnerable Londoners from unsafe temperatures inside their apartments. ACORN Canada recently surveyed 750 tenants across the country about summer heat and related building maintenance. It found that 44 per cent of the low and moderate-income respondents lack access to air conditioning. The cost of energy was the most common reason. On Wednesday, London ACORN called on council to: Implement a maximum heat bylaw that applies to all units in the city, not just those that already have air conditioning Implement landlord licensing that applies to all units in the city, not just those in buildings with four units or less 'Having A/C in each unit, that is controlled by the tenant, is incredibly important,' said Farrah Sherrard, Secretary of the London-at-Large Chapter. 'That is something that the landlord needs to do, but in addition, we need regulations that put that cost onto the landlord without having that impact the tenants in terms of AGI's (Above Guideline Increases) or other expenses.'

Millions of drivers ignore ‘hidden' button that keeps your car cool in hot weather and saves on fuel
MILLIONS of drivers are said to ignore a "hidden" button on their car's dashboard that cools down the motor and could be a summertime saviour. When a heatwave hits, hopping back into your parked vehicle is never a pleasant process. 2 2 But now motorists are sharing a tip about an easy-to-miss button on the dashboard. The button is marked by a little arrow with a symbol of the car. It's called the "recirculate air" button, and it can cool down your cabin even with the air con off. According to Virtual Driving Instructor, the button could be a "life-saver on a scorcher of a day". And it also helps to save on fuel. The expert said: "When you press this button, it stops any air from outside coming through these vents, circulating the air inside the cabin." Pressing both the air conditioning and recirculating air buttons can be really helpful, as they "keep all the cool air inside the cabin". It works by cutting off the outside air, instead recirculating what's already in the car. This brings down the temperature when the air outside the car is hotter than the air inside. To ensure this is the case, blow the aircon for a couple of minutes and then hit the recirculate button - rather than swapping it for warmer outside air. NO NOISE Drivers will risk $1,000 fines if they fail to install car feature under new law – few will be exempt That could even allow you to switch the air con off, saving on fuel. Fuel prices remain high with the average price of a tank costing £75, so it could be a timely piece of financial advice. The RAC agrees and offers another tip to drivers who are looking to save cash on hot days. It said: 'Start driving, but keep the car windows open for a minute or two to let all the hot air escape, do this until the air from the vents feels cooler than the outside temperature. "Once the air conditioning is blowing cold, close all the windows and switch to (pre-cooled) recirculated air." Four-step guide to keeping car cool By Jacob Jaffa First of all, start driving for a couple of minutes before turning on the AC as this can improve it's power. Consumer Reports experts said: "Your car air conditioning works much better when you're actually driving because the faster the engine turns, the faster the AC compressor runs, which lets the system cool more effectively. "Don't waste time and fuel by letting your car run before you go." Once you're up and running, open all the windows fully for between 10 and 20 seconds to let hot air out and make the air con's job easier. Then, when cold air has started to come through the vent, roll up the front windows but keep the rear windows cracked open. Doing this for another 10 to 20 seconds will pull the cooler air through into the back of the car, helping to achieve a better all-around chill. Finally, set the temperature as low as it will go and adjust the fan speed and aim to your preference
