Israel attacks Iran: Air India issues travel advisory, multiple flights diverted

Air India image for representation. NEW DELHI: Owing to the emergency situation in Iran on Friday, several international flights of Air India were diverted as the airline issued a travel advisory. The flights included those to and from the US, the UK and Canada which were either being diverted or returning to their origin. The advisory came after Israel struck several areas in Iran including capital Tehran, which were followed by uncertainties over the airspace in the region. Air India posted on X, "Due to the emerging situation in Iran, the subsequent closure of its airspace and in view of the safety of our passengers, the following Air India flights are either being diverted or returning to their origin: AI130 – London Heathrow-Mumbai – Diverted to Vienna AI102 – New York-Delhi – Diverted to Sharjah AI116 – New York-Mumbai – Diverted to Jeddah AI2018 – London Heathrow-Delhi – Diverted to Mumbai AI129 – Mumbai-London Heathrow – Returning to Mumbai AI119 – Mumbai-New York – Returning to Mumbai AI103 – Delhi-Washington – Returning to Delhi AI106 – Newark-Delhi – Returning to Delhi AI188 – Vancouver-Delhi – Diverting to Jeddah AI101 – Delhi-New York – Diverting to Frankfurt/Milan AI126 – Chicago-Delhi – Diverting to Jeddah AI132 – London Heathrow-Bengaluru – Diverted to Sharjah AI2016 – London Heathrow-Delhi – Diverted to Vienna AI104 – Washington-Delhi – Diverted to Vienna AI190 – Toronto-Delhi – Diverted to Frankfurt AI189 – Delhi-Toronto – Returning to Delhi We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers due to this unforeseen disruption and are making every effort to minimize it, including providing accommodation for passengers. Refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling is also being offered to guests who opt for it. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly passengers to their destinations. We advise all our passengers to check their flight status here ," said Air India in a statement. Earlier, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) issued an advisory to passengers travelling to Iran and Iraq, asking them to check with the airlines they were flying with, to find out the latest schedules and updates. The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv has also issued an advisory to Indian nationals currently in Israel, urging them to stay vigilant, avoid non-essential movement, and follow local safety instructions.

Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Air India shares first official response – ‘Immediately after departure from Runway…'

Air India plane crash: A London-bound Air India plane crashed during takeoff at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. Following the incident, Air India has shared its first official response on its X handle. The post read, 'Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on and on our X handle." Air India flight from Ahmedabad to Gatwick with 242 people on board, including two pilots and 10 cabin crew members, crashed immediately after takeoff, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement. The aircraft was under the command of Capt Sumeet Sabharwal with First Officer Clive Kundar. DGCA informed that the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1:39 pm. Immediately after takeoff, the flight fell on the ground outside the airport, it added. Thick black smoke has been spotted in the area, and rescue operations are currently underway. Following the incident, Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu in a post on X said, 'Shocked and devastated to learn about the flight crash in Ahmedabad. We are on highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action.' He further added, 'Rescue teams have been mobilised, and all efforts are being made to ensure medical aid and relief support are being rushed to the site. My thoughts and prayers are with all those on board and their families.' Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Home Minister and the Police Commissioner about the Air India plane crash and assured to provide Central government assistance, ANI reported. CM Bhupendra Patel has instructed that immediate rescue and relief operations as well as prompt treatment for injured passengers be undertaken, it added.

Plane Crash: First visuals from Air India flight crash site in Ahmedabad; rescue operation underway

Plane crash: An Air India plane bound for London crashed in a locality near Ahmedabad airport Thursday afternoon, soon after taking off, police said. Casualties are feared, though there is no confirmation on the same yet. 'Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on and on our X handle,' Air India posted on X. Soon after the Air India plane crashed, thick smoke billowed from the site in Gujarat's Ahmedabad. Fire tenders were rushed to the scene to douse the blaze, said fire officer Jayesh Khadia. An official told PTI that several injured persons were taken to the city civil hospital. Emergency responders reached the site promptly and have launched intensive rescue, evacuation, and firefighting operations. A DGCA source informed ANI that on 12 June 2025, an Air India Boeing 787 aircraft (VT-ANB), operating flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick, had crashed shortly after takeoff. The aircraft had 242 people on board, including two pilots and ten cabin crew members. It was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with 8,200 hours of flying experience, while the co-pilot, First Officer Clive Kundar, had 1,100 flying hours. According to Air Traffic Control, the plane departed from runway 23 at 1:39 PM IST (08:09 UTC) and issued a MAYDAY call soon after takeoff. However, the aircraft did not respond to any further ATC communication. The plane reportedly crashed just outside the airport perimeter, and thick black smoke was seen billowing from the crash site, the source told ANI. Three Natural Disaster Response Force teams, comprising 90 personnel, have been moved from Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad. Three teams from Vadodara are also moving to Ahmedabad.
