Egypt police kill 5 suspects in Aswan shootout
The Ministry of Interior's agencies delivered a major security blow to a highly dangerous criminal gang dealing in drug trafficking and unlicensed firearms.
The Ministry explained that information and investigations by the Anti-Narcotics, Weapons, and Ammunition Sector, in coordination with other relevant Ministry departments, uncovered the activities of a criminal syndicate composed of six extremely dangerous elements.
These individuals had outstanding prison sentences for various crimes including murder, drug offenses, illegal weapons possession, and armed robbery. They had been using Aswan Governorate as their base for criminal operations.
Following legal procedures, the suspects were targeted with the participation of the Central Security Sector. The gang members initiated a shootout with the forces, resulting in the injury of a police officer and the deaths of five of the criminal elements. The sixth suspect was apprehended.
Authorities seized 47 kilograms of various narcotics, including shabu (methamphetamine), hashish, and heroin, along with 10 firearms, which included machine guns and automatic rifles, and a quantity of assorted ammunition. The street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated at approximately LE20 million.
Necessary legal actions have been taken, and the apprehended suspect is currently being presented to the specialized investigative authorities.
