‘Pod Save America' hits GOP over floated Greenland name change
Jon Favreau and Dan Pfeiffer, former Obama advisors and the hosts of 'Pod Save America,' slammed Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.)'s idea to rename Greenland 'Red, White, and Blueland,' saying the 'stupidest f—— people' are currently in charge of the government. Carter introduced a bill on Tuesday that would allow President Trump to take control of Greenland, a semiautonomous country that is currently controlled by Denmark. 'I learned about this directly from you this morning at our production meeting, and I laughed so hard,' Pfeiffer said in his comments on the podcast, as highlighted by Mediaite. The legislation, titled the 'Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025,' instructs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to oversee the implementation of the name change and to ensure official documentation and maps refer to Greenland by its updated name. Trump has previously expressed interest in the U.S. acquiring Greenland. The legislation would also enable Trump to enter into negotiations with Denmark 'to purchase or otherwise acquire Greenland.' 'America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland,' Carter said in a statement issued after he introduced the bill. 'President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal,' he added. Criticizing the bill, Pfeiffer said it was just a ploy to rile up supporters of the MAGA movement, similar to the renaming of French fries to 'freedom fries.' 'It's obviously freedom fries type stuff,' he said. 'And if you ever just want to just have an interesting experience, find a much younger person and try to explain to them the time in American history 20 years ago when we renamed all of our French fries freedom fries because France would not follow us into a really stupid and losing war.' Who is Buddy Carter? Georgia representative proposes bill to rename Greenland
Rep. Buddy Carter of Georgia introduced a bill to rename Greenland to "Red, White and Blueland." The bill aligns with former President Trump's interest in purchasing the island. Greenland, the world's largest island, is located in the Arctic Ocean. For the bill to become law, it must pass through a multi-step process involving both the House and Senate, culminating in the President's signature. Republican Congressman Buddy Carter, representing Georgia's 1st congressional district, has introduced a bill to rename Greenland to "Red, White and Blueland." The bill, titled the "Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025," aligns with President Donald Trump's past efforts to purchase the island. 'America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland,' Carter said in a press release. 'President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal.' Who is Buddy Carter? Carter, a prominent figure in Georgia's political landscape, has long championed national security interests. His 1st district encompasses coastal Georgia, including Savannah and several other key areas. Carter was born in Georgia, in Port Wentworth. He also graduated with an associate's degree from Young Harris College and earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Georgia. Before 2015, in which he started serving as the U.S. representative for Georgia, he was a Mayor in Pooler from 1996 to 2004. He was elected in 2006 to the Georgia House of Representatives and served in the chamber until 2008. After that, he served in the Georgia State Senate in the chamber until 2014. He resides in Pooler and is married to Amy Coppage, with three sons. When does Buddy Carter's term end? Carter's term as U.S. representative for Georgia's 1st congressional district ends on Jan. 3, 2027. Who is Earl Carter? Earl LeRoy Carter, 67, is also commonly known as "Buddy" Carter. Where is Greenland? Greenland is the world's largest island, located in the Arctic Ocean. More specifically, it is northeast of Canada and northwest of Iceland. How does a bill get approved? According to the U.S. House of Representatives, here are the steps for how laws are made: A representative sponsors a bill. The bill is then assigned to a committee for study. If released by the committee, the bill is put on a calendar to be voted on, debated or amended. If the bill passes by simple majority (218 of 435), the bill moves to the Senate. In the Senate, the bill is assigned to another committee and, if released, debated and voted on. Again, a simple majority (51 of 100) passes the bill. Finally, a conference committee made of House and Senate members works out any differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill. The resulting bill returns to the House and Senate for final approval. The Government Publishing Office prints the revised bill in a process called enrolling. The President has 10 days to sign or veto the enrolled bill. Vanessa Countryman is the Trending Topics Reporter for the the Deep South Connect Team Georgia. Email her at Vcountryman@

GOP lawmaker proposes renaming Greenland ‘Red, White, and Blueland'
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) introduced a new bill this week aiming to rename Greenland to 'Red, White, and Blueland,' as President Trump seeks to acquire the island territory. The legislation, called the 'Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025,' directs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to oversee the implementation of the name change and to ensure official documentation and maps refer to Greenland by its updated name. The legislation also authorizes Trump to enter into negotiations with Denmark 'to purchase or otherwise acquire Greenland.' 'America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland,' Carter said in a statement Tuesday, after introducing the legislation. 'President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal,' he added. Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in purchasing Greenland, a semi-autonomous country that is currently under Denmark's control. He has argued that the U.S. taking over the Arctic island is necessary for national security purposes. During his inauguration speech, Trump referred to the U.S. as a growing nation expanding its territory. He has also called for the U.S. to retake the Panama Canal and mused about annexing Canada. Greenland and Denmark have emphatically resisted Trump's push to acquire the country. 'We don't want to be Danes,' Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede previously said on Fox News. 'We don't even want to be Americans. We want to be Greenlanders.' Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has also insisted Greenland is not for sale and that it is up to Greenland to make its decision about its independence. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
