Iraq to Restart Nitrogen Fertiliser Production after 40 Yrs
By John Lee.
Iraq's Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, laid the foundation stone for a new nitrogen fertiliser plant in Abu Al-Khasib, Basra, on Sunday, marking the revival of production after more than 40 years.
The plant, with an annual capacity of one million tonnes, will be developed at a cost of $1.3 billion.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister emphasised the environmentally friendly nature of the plant, which will contribute to self-sufficiency in fertilisers and enhance agricultural output.
He also highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in driving industrial growth, highlighting that an Iraqi company, supported by global firms, will lead the project.
