Texas escaped inmate considered armed and dangerous after psychiatric hospital break

The Austin Police Department has issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert for an inmate who escaped while on hold at a psychiatric hospital in Texas. McArthur Mathis was transported to The Cross Creek Psychiatric and Addiction Hospital on Wednesday after being in custody in Grimes County since he was arrested Jan. 2 on multiple warrants. Mathis is also a registered sex offender. Mathis is facing multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury to a family member, obstruction or retaliation, deadly conduct and burglary of a habitation. Police say they responded to an urgent welfare call at around 10:30 p.m. and learned that Mathis had allegedly kicked the back door open and jumped over a 6-foot fence. Mathis could be attempting to return to known contacts in Grimes, Lavaca, Brazos or Gonzales counties, the department said. Police also said Mathis should be considered armed and dangerous due to his criminal history. EAU CLAIRE — Police have released additional information about the arrest of a man Friday that led them to briefly ask residents of the East Hill neighborhood to remain indoors. The update includes why police were concerned and labeled Leo Lacy as 'armed and dangerous.' An initial report to authorities said Leo Lacy has pointed a handgun at someone and followed them. Authorities say he was spotted at about 12:20 p.m.n when he returned to his vehicle. They tried to stop him, but Lacy drove away and police broke off the chase based on the time of day and traffic conditions. Shortly afterwards police received a report of a crash. It had involved Lacy, who ran from the scene. With knowledge Lacy was on foot in a specific area, police set up a perimeter and began searching. Schools in the area went on lockdown for safety, and multiple agencies responded. Police used drones and a K9 during the search. They found Lacy shortly before 2 p.m. in an upper storage area in a garage. They found a loaded handgun nearby. Lacy was arrested without further incident. The ECPD says it is looking for Leo Lacy, who is wanted for recklessly endangering safety. He is considered armed and dangerous. When officers attempted to contact lacy, the ECPD says he "fled into the neighborhood. Anyone with information is asked to call police immediately.

Two people have been charged with helping inmates who broke out of a New Orleans jail, Louisiana State Police said Wednesday, as a days-long manhunt continues for the escapees whom authorities have called 'armed and dangerous.' Cortnie Harris, 32, and Corvanntay Baptiste, 38, were each charged with felony accessory after the fact and booked into Plaquemines Parish Detention Center, about 30 miles south of downtown New Orleans. If convicted, Harris and Baptiste could face a maximum of five years in prison.
