‘Man with crossbow' storms busy Scots hospital sparking armed response amid terrifying incident

A MAJOR emergency response was triggered after a man wandered into a Scots hospital wielding a crossbow. The armed individual entered Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth Hospital with the weapon this morning. 2 The hospital atrium was closed down amid the terrifying incident. Traffic around the busy medical campus was also diverted. Cops raced to the scene after being alerted to the incident. Armed units were also deployed to the weapon call. Luckily, the man didn't fire the crossbow inside the hospital. A 29-year-old man has been arrested over the incident. Senior cops believe the incident is isolated and there is no danger to the public. Inspector Alyssa Fullelove-McCann said: 'I'm aware this incident will be concerning but I'd like to provide reassurance that it is being treated as isolated and there is no ongoing risk to the public. 'Officers will remain in the area while enquiries are carried out and anyone with concerns or information can speak to them or call 101.' A Police Scotland spokesperson added: 'Around 6.30am on Friday, 23 May, 2025, we received reports of a man having entered the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with a crossbow. 'The weapon was not discharged and there were no injuries. 'Enquiries remain ongoing.' NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde praised the hospital's security team for quickly dealing with the armed man. A spokesperson said: "We can confirm we supported police with an incident in the atrium of the QEUH this morning. "The atrium was closed for a short time while this was dealt with, and traffic around the hospital was temporarily diverted. "There was no disruption to any of our services and the hospital is now open as normal. "We would like to thank our security teams for their handling of this incident before officers arrived." 2

A suspected handgun was pointed into the face of an officer responding to reports of electric bikes being ridden dangerously, police have Manchester Police (GMP) said one of its officers, who had been called to the Great Clowes Street area of Salford at 12:00 BST and had approached a group of men, had a weapon brandished at him by one of officer deployed his Taser and called for back-up, which included armed response officers and a police helicopter. Following a chase, two men aged 20 and 21 were arrested on North George Street. Police seized a gun on Upper Camp Street. A force spokesperson said tests were ongoing to confirm whether it was a real or imitation firearm. GMP said an e-bike was also recovered on Fenny Street. Det Supt Simon Moyles said: "This incident is entirely unacceptable and highlights how quickly situations faced by our frontline officers can escalate. "Our officers work tirelessly to keep our communities safe and should never be placed in such danger."The two suspects were detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence or to enable another person to do so.
