Pakistan army uses Kashmir to line their pockets, looting nation: Adnan Sami
Singer Adnan Sami blasted Pakistan in his latest interview. The popular playback singer, who got his Indian citizenship a few years back, blamed the Pakistan army for exploiting their own people and the Kashmir issue in front of the world to fill their appeared on the India TV show 'Aap Ki Adalat' and exposed the Pakistani establishment left, right, centre. He said he is an artiste, but he understands how the Pakistan army doesn't let its people and government who say that I came to India carrying top secrets, they should know I am a musician, a singer and a composer. Those generals did romance on my tunes and danced to my songs. The entire army establishment, including ISI, wants to keep the Kashmir issue alive in the guise of Islam," he said. The 53-year-old called Pakistan's military the 'looters' of the nation. He added that it's a strange country where any politician who is loved by the people is 'packed off'."But reality is different. They hype up the Kashmir issue to get donations and funds from other countries to line their pockets. They live a life of luxury after looting the nation, while the people have no money or food. The entire nation is run by generals," he went on to mention popular Pakistani leaders Benazir Bhutto and Imran Khan - killed, and put in jail, respectively. "In other countries, an army lives within a country, but Pakistan is a waahid mulk (unique country), where the country was born inside an army. The army there even sells cornflakes. Any politician who becomes popular is packed off," he said."Then, they finished off Benazir Bhutto. In today's times, Imran Khan is the most popular leader in Pakistan; he is a sports hero, but he has been thrown in jail," he doesn't have democracy, he said, adding that they want to go to war. "Of course. There is no democracy. Whenever they wish, they dislodge the government, and whenever politicians (from India) try to reach an agreement, the army says it won't suit them, chalo, Kargil kar lo," he expressed how grateful he is as an Indian citizen, and to the Indian government for honouring him with a Padma Shri and recognising his talent. Lady Gaga returns in spectacular fashion, with Singapore flag in tow
American pop star Lady Gaga played a dazzling, sold-out set at the National Stadium on May 18, the first night of her four gigs in Singapore, her only stops in Asia. Backed by a group of dancers, the theatrical two-hour show in support of her latest album Mayhem (2025) featured tight choreography and a spectacular stage set-up with multiple props and costume changes. Kicking off the proceedings at 8.15pm, 15 minutes after the stipulated start time, the 39-year-old actress-singer-songwriter appeared in an exaggerated towering red Tudor gown and launched into an orchestral rendition of her 2011 song Bloody Mary. The crowd at the 55,000-capacity venue then eagerly danced along to the follow-up song, an energetic rendition of dance-pop banger Abracadabra from Mayhem, released in March. The concert was styled as a dramatic five-part opera, chock-full of 22 old and new hits, and Lady Gaga would appear on stage after each interval in a different costume, which included armoured bodysuits, feathered wings and flowing trains. "You are so very special to me, my Little Monsters in Singapore," she told the audience at one point, adding that she had fond memories of her previous shows in Singapore. PHOTO: ST READER She last played here at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in 2012, as part of her Born This Way Ball world tour. She also staged a concert at Fort Canning Park in 2009, and did two exclusive showcase performances for local telco Singtel in 2009 and 2011. While singing the 2010 track Alejandro, she brought out the Singapore flag and draped it over one of the multiple balconies on the set. At her recent concerts in Brazil and Mexico, she did the same with their national flags. And during Vanish Into You, another track from Mayhem, she walked down from the stage to the standing floor to get up close to her fans, accepting their bouquets and signing an autograph. Lady Gaga is also set to perform on May 19, 21 and 24. Her Mayhem Ball world tour, which kicks off in July, will visit smaller venues in the US, Europe and Australia. The award-winning multi-hyphenate has been garnering rave reviews for her 2025 concerts so far, including a free show at Copacabana Beach in Brazil. That drew an estimated 2.5 million people, the highest-attended concert by a female artiste. The crowd ahead of Lady Gaga's Mayhem Ball Tour held at the National Stadium on May 18. ST PHOTO: MARK CHEONG Ms Liow Ying Xuan, a 21-year-old student, called the Singapore opening night "exhilarating". She told The Straits Times: "It felt like a dance party where all of us were just in a very intimate space, being ourselves and singing and dancing along to the music. Even though we were physically far from her, we felt connected to her as an audience." When Lady Gaga took out the Singapore flag, Ms Liow - whose interest in the music artiste was piqued most during the Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to the album Chromatica (2020) - was "so shocked". "I felt like she really appreciated and enjoyed performing here, that she was really honoured to be here and loved our presence. "Her interaction with the audience was really genuine - especially coming from a big star. I think it was really cute that she went down to the floor to shake hands with the fans there." Calling his idol a "live Pinterest" board, Mr Quang Pham, 24, said he was spoilt for choice when it came to playing dress-up for the big day. The copywriter from Vietnam added: "What I like about Lady Gaga the most is her uniqueness, from her style to her music to the way she performs. She is the definition of originality. And after more than a decade of following her, finally being here to meet her - my 14-year-old self would be proud."

Seema Pahwa refuses to train 'nepo kids' when asked to do so; says Hindi cinema is selling faces, not story: 'Why not get trained actors?'
Seema Pahwa known for her iconic television show 'Hum Log' and being such a known face in Hindi cinema with recent movies like 'Badhaai Do', 'Bareily Ki Barfi' among others is a theatre artiste. She and her husband Manoj Pahwa who is also a known actor, have largely begun concentrating on plays. In a recent interview, Seema opened up on the current trend within the industry of launching star kids who don't really know anything. She revealed she is often asked to train them but refuses to do so. Seema revealed that she has told her own children to train themselves in acting before they even decide to be a part of any movie. Her children are now training with theatre. "They believe their decision is wrong. They say nothing that we've taught them has any value in the present system. They rue the fact that we made them actors, and not stars," she said. Further talking about star kids, she said, "Why would I say star kids shouldn't come to cinema. Just like how I want my kids to move ahead, even others would have similar expectations, right? There are so many actors who are trained from FTII or NSD, etc… why aren't they getting cast in any film. I know of someone who is an acting graduate and a theatre artist , who quit acting and left the city because of lack of offers." She further added how film-makers have reached out to her to train star kids but she has refused. "Earlier, directors and producers had the say, and that's why you had talent coming in from all over. Now, it is more of a package system that is brought into place to launch someone into films. In fact, some filmmakers reach out to me to train an actor, and do workshops with them. But I flatly refuse to do so," she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo Further revealing the reason for it, she revealed, "Why not just use trained actors instead of bringing untrained people on board, and then teaching them acting. Give the deserving a chance. What new are these untrained actors going to bring to cinema? Why waste that money and investment." She also said that Hindi cinema is now selling a face, not a story.
