Traditionally, there has been a gap for people with astigmatism when they begin to experience presbyopia. They've had to make compromises by either switching from daily contact lenses to reusables, or layering reading glasses over their contact lenses. The ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day MULTIFOCAL for ASTIGMATISM contact lens is built with the combination of four proprietary technologies4 which enable its comfort and visual results: BLINK STABILIZED Design helps the lens stay put, so vision is not distorted or blurry when you blink or move your head.1,4 PUPIL OPTIMIZED Design helps meet presbyopic vision needs, even as you age and your vision continues to change.5 TearStable Technology helps keep the lens hydrated, facilitating end of day comfort.†† 1,6,7,8 Finally, the OptiBlue Light Filter provides 60% blue-violet light filtering, the highest in the industry.**‡‡ 7,8 Later this summer, the ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day for ASTIGMATISM contact lens will launch in both the U.S. and Canada, making the ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day Family of lenses the first and only complete daily disposable family of contact lenses on the market.# 2 Both ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day MULTIFOCAL for ASTIGMATISM and ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day for ASTIGMATISM are planned to be introduced in additional markets outside North America during 2025 and beyond. Dodgers' Max Muncy hoping for new perspective to go with new eyewear
MIAMI — Max Muncy is trying glasses to find the new perspective he's looking for. The new, clear prescription spectacles that the Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman started wearing last Wednesday still take some getting used to. They fogged up in the wet, humid Atlanta nights last weekend. Trying them on at first felt 'like I was in a fishbowl,' he said. His eyesight wasn't even that bad — Muncy insists he has sterling 20/12 vision. But while he was visiting the eye doctor to pick up his wife Kellie's prescription of contacts a couple of weeks ago, the doctor suggested Muncy sit down for a checkup. The ensuing exam revealed that Muncy had astigmatism in his right eye, a curvature of the eye that can affect vision that made him disproportionately dominant in his left eye. It's more pronounced when the left-handed hitting Muncy has been in the batter's box, enduring the worst start to a season of his Dodgers career. So the doctor — the same one who diagnosed teammate Kiké Hernández last summer with astigmatism — suggested the glasses. Muncy didn't see a downside in trying. 'Anything that could take a little bit of the pressure off my back eye when I'm hitting and maybe allow me to see just a little bit better, at this point, why not try it?' Muncy said. 'In this game, how hard everyone's throwing now and the movement they have, every little advantage you might be able to get, you might as well take it. That's why I'm trying them out right now.' Muncy first tried them at home. Then for about a week at Dodger Stadium, he used the glasses during batting practice and taking groundballs. He noticed a difference, not having to strain as much to see signage across the ballpark. He could pick up the baseball quicker, and felt less wear in his eyes from having to focus to see the spin. Ahead of a day game last Wednesday at home against the Miami Marlins, Muncy grabbed his prescription pair of sunglasses. He homered in his first at-bat, snapping a stretch of 106 plate appearances to start the season without one. The dugout erupted. Muncy looked to the sky in relief after rounding the bases. Hello, Max! — Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) April 30, 2025 So the glasses have stuck, whether they were the reason for the home run or not. 'I don't know if that coincides with it or not, but in baseball, if you find something is a coincidence and it works, you roll with it. It doesn't matter,' Muncy said. 'You put your left sock on first instead of your right, and it worked, you're going to do that next day. So it's just one of those things where I've had really good at-bats since I've started wearing it, so I'm going to keep doing it.' Muncy's new eyewear has also coincided with his swing trending in a positive direction after an offseason 'misunderstanding' surrounding his approach. It'll still take time to dig himself out of the hole he's put himself in to start the season; after reaching base safely twice Tuesday in Miami, he still has a .586 OPS. That's in the bottom 10 among hitters with at least 130 plate appearances this season. Still, the glasses resting in front of his eyes have seemingly taken a weight off his shoulders. Muncy has taken on a mental load this season, with his slow start making him the target of intense scrutiny as the Dodgers' offense struggled to find its footing for much of April. In one viral video last month, a fan appeared to hurl expletives in Muncy's direction as he boarded the team bus. 'Playing in L.A. is not easy,' Muncy said. 'The fans want to win. They expect to win. They expect to be great. When you're not being great, there's an expectation with that. It wasn't always necessarily me that was feeling that pressure. It was my family. 'That's one of the things that's tough about social media these days. People feel like they can say whatever they want to say, and they don't realize who it's hurting the most. I signed up for this life. I understand that if you play bad, they're going to have opinions. And it's warranted. But when you're hearing from your family about certain things that are being said to them, that's when it gets tough for me.' It also did not help that Muncy, coming off his best season by OPS (.852) since tearing ligaments in his elbow on the final day of the 2021 season, was the indirect subject of trade rumors throughout the winter. In the wake of their World Series championship, the Dodgers were speculatively linked as a potential landing spot for former All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado, who the St. Louis Cardinals were actively shopping. Arenado, who holds a no-trade clause, has long been believed to want to play in Los Angeles for the Dodgers. Arenado did not get moved, even vetoing a prospective deal to the Houston Astros. The Dodgers never seriously pursued a move for the 34-year-old, who Muncy had outperformed (at a cheaper cost) in each of the previous two seasons. Front-office personnel publicly backed Muncy as the everyday third baseman, who remains on a very affordable contract that has a $10 million club option for next season. 'It's never easy, but it's baseball,' Muncy said. 'It's a business. Especially when you're on a team like this where they expect to win the World Series. You also understand if there's any chance that they can improve they're probably going to take that chance. But at the same time, that's also where I've built my relationship with Doc and the front office and they understand where I'm at that, if there's a chance to improve this team, they can definitely do it. I'm willing to accept any role in that. They know that.' That hasn't eased the pressure. The results will still have to come, whether it's because of the glasses or not. 'They gave me the confidence that they had in me, and unfortunately I haven't entirely returned it yet this year, but I still know that I'm a very good player and I can definitely get back to my standards. If I'm able to just relax and go out there and play, by the end of the year, you may not even know what my first month was,' he said. (Photo: Katelyn Mulcahy / Getty Images)
