Police around 4 a.m., officers were sent to the Lounge 8IV Bar and Grill at State Road 84 and SW 10 Avenue after they received word of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found several vehicles that had been damaged and two people were detained. Investigators said it appears the shooting began in the bar's parking lot and continued into the roadway. A short time later they were made aware that a person injured in the shooting had arrived at a hospital in Tamarac with non-life-threatening injuries.

Pier 273 offers bright spot on Wilson's main street
Mike Annalora has jumped into the restaurant business with both feet, opening Pier 273 Bar and Grill in the Village of Wilson. The fully renovated space opened last month, serving beer, wine, cocktails and food favorites. After working in automotive HVAC testing at Mahle in Lockport for 24 years, Annalora bought the 160-year-old building in the Young Street business district in June 2020 with the intention of performing a partial renovation. What followed was more than four years of construction with his cousin, Dave Ferington. 'He was here every step of the way.' Now, patrons can't spot a single repurposed item in the spotless, locally-themed pub. 'It took on a life of its own,' Annalora said. 'It started turning into a major project rather than a minor project.' At the location of the former Jean's Bar, once a central village watering hole, the space had been showing its age. Now all that remains are some white pine planks and painted gray. Entering the heavy hobnailed door with a quirky viewport, customers step into a contemporary space with a 13-seat bar in a room with gleaming corrugated metal wainscoting. The back room offers bistro and cafe tables for dining. Annalora said he didn't want to cover the walls with neon beer and liquor signs. With the help of historian John Sinclair, Annalora was able to use scans of local historic photos to make canvas wall art. He named the restaurant after the prominent piers in Wilson, and then referenced the bar's street number. 'As a kid, I always thought Wilson was a great area,' he said. Annalora enjoyed boating in the area with his father, and continued stopping into the village as an adult. As a college student, Annalora worked as a cook and bartender at Wagner's Restaurant in Lockport. He continues to tap into the knowledge of experienced local restaurateurs Gordy Harper and Bob Cammarata of Cammarata's Restaurant in Lockport, where Annalora frequently dined. Annalora is still expanding his menu and bringing in beverages that his customers request. He will accept charge cards in the future, but is currently operating on a cash-only basis. 'You've gotta be dedicated,' Cammarata said of the restaurant industry. 'You gotta know the neighborhood and what people want down there, and cater to them. Mike's going to do fine down there. He's got a nice place.'
