Jazz hiring Celtics assistant GM Austin Ainge as president of basketball operations: Source
The Utah Jazz are hiring Austin Ainge as their president of basketball operations, a team source confirmed to The Athletic on Monday morning. Ainge, 43, spent 16 years in the Boston Celtics organization, including six years as the assistant general manager. He first joined the franchise in 2009 as the head coach of the Maine Red Claws, the G League affiliate of the Celtics, before transitioning into a front office role in 2011. He worked his way up from director of player personnel to one of the key voices in the Boston front office, first under his father, Danny Ainge, and later under current Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens. But with a critical offseason coming, Ainge's absence will be felt in a front office that has boasted impressive stability throughout the years. Even after Danny Ainge's departure in 2021, Stevens prioritized keeping the front office staff together. In Utah, Austin will be working for his father again; Danny is the CEO of the Jazz. After a 17-65 regular-season record, the franchise will have the fifth pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. (Photo of Danny Ainge and Austin Ainge: David Dow / NBAE via Getty Images)
