"I am quite competitive and I found my eyes couldn't scan the card quickly enough - but I think I got the hang of it."The National Bingo Game Association said a combination of the Covid pandemic, energy prices and the impact of the recent Budget on employment costs have "made it difficult for smaller independent bingo clubs to survive".Ms Svencika added she was surprised that her first visit to play bingo was free as a taster."I'm not worried about getting hooked on it - it's not that addictive."I would only come with friends for a social time out," she added. As I've learned from those around me, you can still have agency, volunteer, make friends, and start new hobbies, no matter your age. My experience has taught me how to be a better friend and neighbor. There's always a bowl of soup, apple pie, or a bottle of ginger ale on my front porch because everyone cares. In turn, I help run errands for others when I can, and even better, live only 10 minutes from my aunt. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Tuesday's: Forbes NYT 'Connections' Hints For Tuesday, July 8: Today's Clues And Answers By Kris Holt It's Wednesday, and you know what that means: it's time for another game of Connections ! Wednesdays used to be quite different for me. When I was at university in my hometown, classes would end early on that day, I believe at 11. The idea behind this was to give students more time to study or take part in social activities. I did neither. Instead, I walked for about seven minutes from the campus to the downtown bingo hall to meet my grandmother. For the low price of two British pounds, I had a few games of bingo, a cup of tea, a bacon roll and some quality time with my beloved gran. After the lunchtime bingo session was over, we'd walk back to her flat and we'd spend some more time together. It was a nice time in my life, and I cherish those memories. I do the same thing now whenever I'm back visiting family and friends, as I go to bingo with my mother and aunt. The occasional win is the least important part. Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections , the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us. Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much. How To Play Connections Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app. You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part. There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them. Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay. Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap. If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections , so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed. As I looked around the grid, SHOUT and KNOCK were the only two "call to attention" words. So, that took care of the blues. ANKLE and COMPRESSION seemed like socks to me. I vaguely remembered that CREW socks are a thing, and of course DRESS socks are handy too. Greens done. At that point, the yellows seemed pretty clear, so as is my habit, I submitted the purples first. I suspected there was some kind of wordplay going on there, but I couldn't quite figure it out. After I submitted the group, it all made sense (at least within the tortured logic of this game). I slid through the yellows for the win. That's another perfect game in this ridiculous streak, which has now extended to 134 wins (I haven't felt in too much peril lately, so I think we're due for another very difficult game). Leigh woman wins huge £50k jackpot after more than 20 years of bingo
A borough woman has won a huge jackpot after playing bingo for over 20 years. Elizabeth Draper, 55, from Leigh, first visited BJ's Bingo on May 2, 2003 - but never thought she would win the huge cash amount. Cheers rang out in the bingo hall at around 8pm on Sunday (July 6) as Elizabeth showed off her winning ticket in front of her daughter and close friends. The Leigh woman had just won a huge prize of £50,000 in the National Bingo Game. Elizabeth said: "I never thought it could happen, but it did! "My heart was racing and we all screamed at the top of our voices. "The atmosphere in the new lounge was electric." Andrew Tattershall, General Manager at BJ's Bingo Leigh, said the team "couldn't be prouder" of her. He said: "We couldn't be prouder to see Elizabeth's dedication rewarded. "From her very first visit in 2003 to last night's life-changing win, she embodies everything we love about our bingo community. "Huge congratulations to her and her family!" Have a story?
