Hundreds of budgies helped in Rugby charity's first year
Hundreds of budgerigars have been helped in the first year of a charity after it was set up in a mid-terraced Place UK was created by Siân Owen in Rugby, Warwickshire, 12 months ago and was named after her first budgie to be the country's only registered budgie rescue charity, as it marks its first birthday, she said they have helped more than 200 birds Owen said as soon as the charity was set up, they started getting requests for help and support. Currently the rescue is home to 62 birds and Ms Owen, who chairs the charity with three trustees, says they come to her through a variety of from owners who cannot care for them while others are rescued from poor living November, Charlie's Place UK was part of a team which rescued 112 budgies from a single room where the birds were kept was in a squalid condition."There were some birds that had passed away. There were also a lot of maggots and insects in there," Ms Owen said. A key mission for her is education as she said owners need to better understand their budgies."It's been about trying to help people to get access to the right and credible information about how to care properly for birds," she added. Crews extinguish fire at Riverdale strip mall
Firefighters extinguished a fire in Riverdale on Sunday. Crews responded to reports of a fire at 6475 Church Street in Riverdale at approximately 4:41 p.m. The building is a commercial strip mall. Firefighters said the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services responded to the fire with nine units, totaling 27 members of the department fighting the blaze. During the fire, several birds were rescued from the building. There were no injuries reported. CHP officers, firefighters help free great blue heron that got caught in fishing line
SACRAMENTO COUNTY – First responders jumped into action to rescue a bird that had apparently gotten stuck in a tree due a tangled fishing line. California Highway Patrol's East Sacramento division said on Tuesday that a concerned citizen flagged down one of their officers along the Citrus Bike Trail along Highway 50. Officers and firefighters working together to free the bird. CHP East Sacramento The citizen saw a great blue heron stuck in a tree. The bird was hanging by its wing, which was tangled in a fishing line. One officer managed to use a large stick to help guide the bird onto a branch where it could rest. A crew from Metro Fire of Sacramento then responded to the scene and pulled out a pole saw to cut the bird free. No other information was available on the condition of the bird.
