Carolyn Hax: Friend's sudden death brings acute sense of last moments
Adapted from an online discussion.
Dear Carolyn: I'm hoping that typing this out will help, because I feel so lost. Here goes:
I decided to work from home on my birthday over a month ago. Early that morning, one of my closest friends tapped on my kitchen window as she was walking her dogs, and I ran outside to get a birthday hug and give scritches to her very good boys. Later that day, she came by again to drop off a birthday present. Her birthday was a few days later and I had her present ready, but I told her she'd have to wait until the actual day. Hers was a milestone birthday, and they were going away for the weekend.
