Scott Mills, 51, reveals he's finally financially secure and has 'made it' months after taking over BBC Radio 2's breakfast show from Zoe Ball
Scott Mills has revealed he's finally 'financially secure' feels like he's 'made it' after landing Zoe Ball 's gig on BBC Radio 2. The DJ, 51, took over hosting the highly esteemed breakfast show on from Zoe, 54, in January. Speaking about his career, Scott told The Telegraph how he's finally learned to say 'no' to work after years of missing sleep for various gigs. He said: 'I still feel insecurity a little bit. 'I also think that's because I work in an industry where you don't signup thinking this is a job for life. Contracts can end, radio stations get taken over, and then they decide "we don't have a lot for you". That's happened to a lot of people I know. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Through my 20s, 30s and even 40s, if I was offered work, I'd take it, sometimes at a risk to my health. 'I was working way too much, because my mindset was that you don't know when it might end.' Scott continued: 'There was one freshers' week where my schedule for playing in student unions was: Monday: Aberdeen, Tuesday: Glasgow, Wednesday: Edinburgh. 'I would do my show in London, fly to Scotland, do the gig around midnight, stay over with four hours sleep, fly back, do the show in London, repeat. 'I took every opportunity for 20 years and actually, I don't really want to any more. I enjoyed it, but life is different now.' After a career spanning three decades, Scott now finally believes he's 'made it', following his promotion by BBC bosses in January. He said: 'For the first time, I really do believe in myself. 'It's like, "you have to look at the facts. They've put you on the breakfast show, you must be doing something right".' Scott was previously reported to be taking a small pay rise for presenting the show, earning approximately £450,000 a year which is far below Zoe's £950,000. The dramatic pay difference comes as BBC bosses are under 'enormous pressure' to cut back on costs. Scott defended his salary and said he had been 'playing the long game' his whole life to reach this point. Zoe left the breakfast show to focus on family and admitted how she wouldn't miss the 4am wake up calls that come with anchoring the flagship slot. She said at the time: 'I've decided it's time to step away from the early alarm call and start a new chapter. 'We've shared a hell of a lot, the good times, the tough times, there's been a lot of laughter. And I am going to miss you cats.'

Eamonn Holmes' ‘replacement revealed' as TV bosses make plans for breakfast show host after star's nasty fall on-air
EAMONN Holmes' TV replacement has been 'revealed' as bosses at GB News make plans for the future of their breakfast show following his alarming fall on-air. Executives have reportedly been considering Good Morning Britain anchor Richard Madeley, 69, as a potential stand-in, after a string of on-set incidents raised fresh concerns about Eamonn's health. 4 Presenter Eamonn, 65, who uses a wheelchair due to chronic back problems, was heard crashing to the floor live on air yesterday during an interview with political commentator Charlie Rowley. Although the moment wasn't shown on screen, viewers heard a loud thud and co-host Ellie Costello gasping: 'Oh my gosh!' Eamonn could be heard off-camera insisting: 'I'm fine, fine, fine — carry on,' but the show swiftly cut to an ad break. When it returned six minutes later, Eamonn was back in his seat, joking: 'I'm still alive,' and blaming the fall on the dodgy studio chairs. But behind the scenes, it's believed there's far less laughter. According to the Daily Mail, it actually took the crew several minutes to get Eamonn upright again - and it's not the first time this has happened. A source said: "He fell a few weeks ago too, just not during the broadcast. "There's a pattern here, and everyone's concerned. Eamonn's still sharp as a tack and a joy to watch, but it's a serious production challenge now.' Producers are said to be drawing up contingency plans, with Richard Madeley's name 'frequently mentioned' in talks. They added: 'Nothing's confirmed, but they'd need someone with gravitas and live-TV experience if Eamonn needs to step back.' Emotional moment Eamonn Holmes fights back tears on his podcast The incident comes just weeks after Eamonn was rushed to hospital following a fall at home, and days after he disappeared from the final 40 minutes of last Tuesday's show with no explanation. Viewers continue to rally around the broadcaster, who's long been open about his health battles. He's previously spoken about his double hip replacement, spinal surgery, and a lack of feeling in his lower body. Last year, he admitted he can no longer walk or manage daily tasks without support. A friend told the publication: 'He's in constant pain. It's hard to watch. He loves his job, but something seems to happen every week. The team are doing their best, but it's becoming more difficult to manage.' Speaking candidly at the end of yesterday's show, Eamonn told viewers: 'The chair gave way and I was lying flat on my back with my head hanging off the set. "The first hour or so I was OK because the adrenaline kicked in, but then as the morning went on I felt the aches and pains. "The worst thing is that two weeks ago I was hospitalised for a similar fall in the same area, back of my neck, head and shoulders and that's all come back." He added: "We're going to have to replace the chairs because I'm not the only one to have fallen." Commentator Charlie also paid tribute to the veteran host. He wrote on X: "Eamonn, you are the real hero for carrying on this morning. "A true professional and National Treasure who I learn from each and every week. It's a privilege working with you, Ellie Costello and the rest of the GB News family. Take care!" At the end of the installment, in conversation with colleagues Andrew Pierce and Bev Turner, Bev told viewers: "Now, if you weren't watching earlier this morning, you will have missed our resident stunt man, Eamonn Holmes. "Eamonn, as we know, struggles with his health at the moment. He has some good days, he has some bad days. Well this morning it turned out it was a bad day." "Unfortunately we have these chairs on wheels so we can jump in and out quickly. "We have to jump to the camera, we have to nip out to the loo sometimes, and sometimes we have 30 seconds to do that. "Eamonn pushed his chair back this morning and ended up on the floor." Andrew continued: "Eamonn was flat out, 180 degree angle, saying 'carry on'. "He shouted from under the desk, he did carry on and he got up and carried on with the show. What a trooper he is." The Sun has contacted representatives for Eamonn and GB News. 4 4

Heartbroken radio stars choke back tears as they reveal their breakfast show has been axed after 20 YEARS
Two radio hosts were left heartbroken as they revealed live on air that their breakfast show had been axed after 20 years. Presenter John Dalziel, known as JD, choked back tears as he and co-star and Roisin McCourt confirmed that their Hits Radio West Midlands show would be coming to an end. As part of a nationwide restructure, the duo's popular regional show will be pulled from airwaves to make way for a national version, which will be fronted by Fleur East, Will Best and James Barr from June 9. And just days away from their final show on June 6, JD appeared clearly moved by the axe as he struggled to find the words to break the news to their loyal listeners. With his words almost cracking with emotion, JD said: 'This is one of those moments that's honestly really tough to kind of say out loud but we've got some news for you. 'After almost 20 years of broadcasting around here, our show is coming to an end and we just wanna thank you because we've loved being part of your morning routine and can't thank you enough for letting us into your lives.' Roisin then reflected on her years on the show, which transmits across Herefordshire on 97.6FM, during which she's had children. She said: 'We have and from my point of view, I think I've had three children - they're 13, they're nine, they're five - and I've been here waking you up every morning but now I'm gonna be at home waking them up, which they're either gonna love or hate. 'You're also gonna see a crazy woman driving around Coundon in a Citreon so watch out for me, but honestly, it's been absolutely incredible but 21 years is a very long time on a breakfast show and we really wanna thank you!' JD then went on to reflect on their 'incredible journey' over 20 years in which they'd both gone through a plethora of life experiences. He emotionally shared: 'We've had an incredible journey. Y'know we've grown up on this show, we've lived our lives out loud. We've had kids, we've been through different partners, we've had breakups, we've had the lot. 'But y'know what? There's nothing more than the priviledge of broadcasting to the area that you call home. The place that you're born and brought up with and that's always gonna be incredibly special to me. 'You shared your lives daily with us, y'know your weddings, your breakups. I think we've even got a couple of kids named after us somewhere round here. 'From June 9th the all new breakfast show will be here. I know the guys well and they're gonna give you a great wake up in the morning... They've got loads planned over the summer.' Fans were quick to share their reaction on the pair's official X account, with some declaring they will no longer be listening when they leave He then went on to pay tribute to his long-time co-star, remarking: 'But I just wanted to say, the biggest thank you to firstly you [Roisin], you've been my partner in crime. You've been my daily giggle. 'You've been the beating heart of this show. You've shared everything with not just me and Paul, but the whole of the West Midlands, and Paul I'm gonna miss the daily belly laugh everyday. You make everything funny even when it shouldn't be.' Fans were quick to share their reaction on the pair's official X account, with some declaring they will no longer be listening when they leave. 'I've said it elsewhere but I'm gutted, you guys make my hour long morning commute brighter. I'm so sad we are gonna lose local Djs, you guys are fab! @hitsradiouk @HitsWestMids have lost a listener here! Will make the most of you all until 6th June and wish you all well! Sad news.' 'Well that's us not listening in every morning then. Where are you guys going?' 'Mornings won't be the same without you three, I for one will be finding something else to listen to in the mornings.' 'Absolutely gutted! Will miss you! Was worried this could have been on the cards with the rebrand and transitioning to National Shows rather than local. Know it may not be on the cards or even wanted by you three - but many listeners would follow you to whichever station you go.'

Watch the heartbreaking moment radio stars announce their show has been cancelled after 20 years in emotional goodbye
TWO radio show hosts were left heartbroken as they confirmed their breakfast show had been axed by radio bosses after 20 years on air. Show hosts John Dalziel, known as JD, and Roisin McCourt confirmed the news live on air to their dedicated listeners. 4 4 The pair's breakfast show on Hits Radio West Midlands has been pulled as part of a nationwide restructure. Instead of localised breakfast output, all Hits Radio branded stations will have one central programme hosted by Fleur East and Big Brother host Will Best. In the on-air moment, JD was left struggling to find the words as he began the announcement that they had been given the boot. He said: "After 20 years of broadcasting round here, our show, it is coming to an end. "We just wanna thank you because we've loved being part of your morning routine and can't thank you enough for letting us into your lives." Roisin then added: "From my point of view, I think I've had three children - they're 13, nine and five - and I've been here waking you up every morning but now I'm going to be at home waking them up!" JD then became emotional as his voice appeared to crack as he recounted the various changes the duo had gone through during their time at Hits Radio including various romantic partners, difficult days and children. They then confirmed that June 6 would be their final show on air before the breakfast programme is pulled for good. JD then paid tribute to his co-star as he thanked her and called her the "beating heart" of the show. He then added on the verge of tears: "It's been an absolute pleasure and I never knew I'd last this long in this industry. "Thank you so much." Breakfast shows across the country have been axed in favour of one regional output across the Hits network. Responding to the emotional moment, shared to the station's X account, one fan said: "You have a proud legacy and your next chapter will be even more awesome! Well done!" As another added: "Very sad to see this. I take it they want to cull local radio and save costs." A third then wrote: "Absolutely gutted. Mornings just won't be the same again. "Thanks guys for the many laughs along the way. Good luck with whatever next xxx." As a fourth supportively said to JD: "No one can take away the person you are. Your fans support you." 4
