Louise Bridge closure extended until end of July

A Winnipeg bridge will now remain closed to motorists until the end of July. The Louise Bridge, which connects Point Douglas to Elmwood, was closed on May 23 for its annual inspection and maintenance. CTV News previously reported it was supposed to reopen on Sunday. However, according to a Friday news release, the city said corrosion discovered during the inspection must be fixed before the bridge can reopen. The city anticipates that work won't be completed until late July. The Louise Bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists while repairs are being done; however, the city notes access could be blocked off from time to time to allow work to proceed. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes like the Disraeli Bridge or Provencher Bridge over the next two months and allow for additional time.

Pittsburgh's Herron Avenue Bridge temporarily closed following inspection

Pittsburgh's Herron Avenue Bridge has been temporarily closed following an inspection. Inspection consultants have deemed the bridge to be structurally "deficient," according to a detour alert from Pittsburgh Regional Transit. The bridge was closed at 8 a.m. Wednesday until further notice. "Following emergent findings from the City's bridge inspection consultant and PennDOT, we are moving quickly to close the Herron Avenue Bridge in the interest of public safety," said Zack Workman, P.E., Acting Chief Engineer. "Barricades and 'Bridge Closed' signage will be in place starting Wednesday. A designated detour route will guide motorists via the Bloomfield Bridge." The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure is currently in the preliminary engineering phase of a full bridge rehabilitation, which is set to begin in 2028. DOMI, PennDOT, and the inspection team will explore other options for a safe and earlier reopening. "Since the start of my administration, I've had to make the tough call to close bridges more than once—but I've never regretted putting public safety first," said Mayor Ed Gainey. "Proactive steps like this are how we ensure our infrastructure remains safe for every Pittsburgher." For southbound traffic, a detour route will utilize Liberty Avenue to the Bloomfield Bridge to Bigelow Boulevard. City of Pittsburgh / Department of Mobility and Infrastructure A northbound detour will utilize Bigelow Boulevard to the Bloomfield Bridge to Liberty Avenue. City of Pittsburgh / Department of Mobility and Infrastructure The closure will impact the North Side, Oakland, and South Side (Route 54). The inbound and outbound stops at the Herron busway station will be discontinued.

Ozark bridge closes after flood damage

OZARK, Mo. — Drivers in Ozark are finding themselves with detours to take after a bridge closed because of flood damage. The Riverside Bridge goes over the Finley River north of downtown Ozark. Over the weekend it saw floodwaters high enough to cover the Riverside Road, causing damage to it. One man who lives just south of the bridge tells Ozarks First the closure will make trips to Springfield longer for not just him but anyone in his neighborhood. 'We usually take this way to go to Springfield and uptown to get out of town easier. But now we're going to have to drive down there around the park,' says Chris McMannama Another man who lives right next to the river and bridge says his property was so flooded he evacuated his family in a canoe. 'We had to canoe out of our house,' says Michael Bloom. 'I pulled the dogs and all of our animals out by canoe.' Bloom also says after the water levels fell he knew the road was damaged and would need attention. 'The water had so much momentum as it crossed the road. That's what caused the ripple. It's literally disgusting how much damage was done just to the road right there. Not just the entrance to my driveway, the entire road,' says Bloom. The water levels of Finley have fallen greatly since yesterday. One woman who also lives near the riverside bridge says she has seen the damage up close, and some drivers are ignoring the closure warnings. 'It is actually very dangerous and they need to listen to the barrier and the special road district,' says Amy Acker. The damage will take at least two weeks to fix according to the city.
