Google Search now shows AI-generated weather snapshots for select users: Report
Google is reportedly testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that provides users with brief, text-based summaries of current weather conditions directly within its mobile Search experience. The feature, which is currently limited in availability, has been spotted by some users in the United States when searching for city-specific weather information through the Google app on Android and iOS. According to a report by9to5Google, the AI-powered summary appears between the standard hourly and 10-day forecast sections and aims to offer an at-a-glance understanding of the weather. The brief narrative includes key details such as wind conditions, the likelihood of rain or thunderstorms, atmospheric pressure patterns, and trends in temperature fluctuations. At present, the feature seems to be in an early testing phase, with visibility restricted to certain regions. Searches for 'weather Los Angeles' and 'weather San Diego' reportedly triggered the new summary, whereas other locations did not yield the same result. Mint was also unable to access the summaries for the mentioned cities, indicating that the rollout is likely limited to a small user group. In addition to the text description, the AI-generated section includes a small icon linking to external sources for more comprehensive weather information. Beneath the summary, Google has added a disclaimer that reads: 'Generative AI is experimental,' reinforcing that the tool is still in a testing stage. Currently, the new feature appears only within the Google app and on the mobile web. It does not show up on desktop platforms or when users are not signed into their Google accounts. Google has not yet announced any plans for a wider rollout or confirmed when the feature might become broadly available. The addition comes as part of the tech giant's ongoing efforts to integrate generative AI into its suite of services, offering more contextual and user-friendly information across its platforms.

From Imagen 3 to DeepMind's Mariner: Key features Gemini AI could unveil at Google I/O 2025
Google is gearing up to unveil a suite of new features for its Gemini AI platform at the upcoming Google I/O 2025 developer conference, according to the company's latest newsletter sent to Gemini Advanced subscribers. The tech giant has hinted at transformative updates designed to enhance personalisation, boost productivity, and introduce new ways of engaging with the AI assistant. As per a report by9to5Google, subscribers were told to expect 'a wave of exciting updates' that promise a 'more personalised assistant' experience. While Google has not confirmed specific tools or functions, speculation suggests that deeper integration with Android devices could be on the horizon. This might allow the AI assistant to handle a broader range of on-device tasks and interact more seamlessly with third-party applications. In terms of productivity, Google is believed to be working on tighter integration between Gemini and its suite of workplace tools. Potential features could include collaborative environments akin to Google Canvas within Docs, or more advanced data visualisation capabilities in Sheets — possibly powered by Imagen 3, Google's next-gen image generation model. The company also teased innovations in how users can interact with Gemini. Currently, interaction is limited to text, images, video, and voice. However, the real game-changer may come from the introduction of more advanced agentic features. Among the most anticipated is Project Mariner — an experimental AI agent developed by DeepMind that is designed to understand and operate across a wide array of web elements. Still in its alpha phase, Mariner could enable Gemini to perform complex, multi-step tasks in a user's browser, marking a major leap in autonomous AI functionality. Recent updates for Gemini subscribers have already included access to the Veo 2 video model and enhanced Gemini Live features. With Google I/O 2025 just around the corner, developers and tech enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting what could be the most significant upgrade to Gemini since its launch. AI for young minds? Google's Gemini now available with parental guidance: What it means for users
Google is extending access to its artificial intelligence chatbot, Gemini, to younger users under the age of 13. The rollout, which began in the United States, will allow children to interact with the AI assistant on Android, iOS, and the web, with supervision tools and parental controls built in to ensure safe use. The tech giant says the decision comes in response to feedback from parents, educators, and child development experts, who believe AI can support learning and creativity when properly managed. According to a report by9to5Google, Google has begun emailing parents with details about the upcoming access. The emails outline how children can use Gemini to help with schoolwork, ask questions, and even create stories. It also notes that children will be able to set Gemini as the default assistant on Android devices. However, the company cautions that Gemini can occasionally make mistakes, and children are advised to double-check the information it provides. Parents are also reminded that Gemini is not a human being—it does not think or feel emotions, even if it can simulate natural conversations. The California-based company has introduced several safeguards to give parents and educators control over how children interact with the AI. Through the Family Link app, parents can manage their child's Google account, monitor their use of Gemini, receive activity alerts, and set restrictions where needed. Similarly, for children accessing Gemini via school accounts, administrators will be able to control and supervise usage through the Google Admin console. This move represents a significant step in making AI tools more widely accessible to younger audiences, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and responsible use. By combining innovative technology with parental oversight, Google hopes to provide children with a helpful, engaging companion that supports learning without compromising on security or trust.
