Vir Das mocks Cannes dress code with fake 'nude, long train' outfit

Vir Das took another playful jab at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday, May 23, by sharing an AI-generated photo of himself attending the prestigious event on Instagram. This happened after the festival introduced strict new rules for red carpet looks, which included no dramatic gowns, see-through nude dresses, and long, flowing trains. Vir Das posted a photo-shopped picture of himself at Cannes, wearing a semi-transparent and voluminous outfit with an extra-long train. Along with the photo, he wrote, 'Large, voluminous, nude, long train. In your face #cannesfilmfestival you don't know what you're missing (sic)." But the funny post quickly caught attention online. A few days back, after the festival began on May 13, Das had also posted a funny statement pretending to be upset about the new rules."It is with deep regret that I announce I will no longer be attending the Cannes film festival because of the new red carpet rules. For multiple generations nude voluminous gowns with large trains have been culturally specific to the comedy community. This year I had planned a dark beige, 78 foot long, off- shoulder piece that moved finely into sleeves that covered my wrists, but dipped lower and gently showcased the heart of my s*****m. But if I cannot wear a Gota original, I refuse to let our culture be shunted. I was planning on taking multiple selfies of cultural significance. But someone has to take a stand. I wish the festival all the best (sic)," he wrote in the post. Vir Das post on Instagram The 78th Cannes Film Festival, which began on May 13, will conclude on May 24, 2025. The prestigious event witnessed a strong Indian presence on the red carpet. Bollywood actors like Alia Bhatt, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Aditi Rao Hydari, among others, added glamour and elegance to the grand Watch

Cannes 2025: Vir Das Trolls Dress Code With ‘Nude, Long, Voluminous' Gown

Last Updated: On his Instagram, Vir shared what appeared to be an image of him at the French Riviera, decked out in a voluminous, nude-coloured outfit with an extravagant train. Cannes 2025 is laying down the law when it comes to red carpet attire with no dramatic gowns, no exaggerated nude dresses and absolutely no endless trains. But comedian and actor Vir Das isn't one to follow rules quietly. Instead, he trolled the festival in the most Vir Das way possible. On his Instagram, Vir shared what appeared to be an image of him at the French Riviera, decked out in a voluminous, nude-coloured outfit with an extravagant train, seemingly violating every single dress code restriction the festival had announced. But there was a catch. The image was edited. Poking fun at the new red carpet policies, Vir captioned the post: 'Large, voluminous, nude, long train. In your face #cannesfilmfestival you don't know what you're missing." His humorous twist on the ongoing fashion debate at Cannes made it clear that he hadn't actually set foot at the event this year but was still very much in the conversation. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Vir Das (@virdas) This isn't the first time the comic has commented on Cannes with his trademark sarcasm. In a previous post, he jokingly wrote, 'It is with deep regret that I announce I will no longer be attending the Cannes film festival because of the new red carpet rules. For multiple generations nude voluminous gowns with large trains have been culturally specific to the comedy community…" He continued, describing a faux couture outfit he had planned—complete with a 78-foot-long train and sleeves that 'gently showcased the heart of [his] s*****m." Beyond the jokes, Vir also used his platform to address elitism within Bollywood over influencers walking the Cannes red carpet. In a post, he defended the presence of digital creators, writing, 'Look. I work largely with new unknown designers. So I get the appeal and eyeballs that a red carpet brings… I also respect the hustle that it takes to get yourself there." First Published:

Amruta Fadnavis called ‘wife of Maharashtra's head of state' at Cannes event, internet baffled

A title used for Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, at an event at the Cannes Film Festival has confused the internet. In an image going viral, she is introduced as the 'wife of Maharashtra's head of state'. 'Spoke on 'Women's Equity at #cannes #cannesfilmfestival for #betterworld & #unesco and also signed up for being an 'Ambassador for Women's Rights'!!!' Amruta Fadnavis wrote on Instagram as he shared a series of pictures from the event. Among the photos she shared, one shows her outfit she donned to attend the event. She is seen wearing a pantsuit complete with flower motifs. Another picture shows her in conversation with two women, with her introduction featured on a screen behind them. 'AMRUTA FADNAVIS, Banker, Singer, Social Activist & Wife of the Head of State of Maharashtra, India,' it reads. The picture soon went viral on social media, with several expressing confusion. An individual wrote, 'Her husband is not the head of state of Maharashtra.' Another remarked, 'Nope, she's not'. A third joined, 'Wait, head of state is Governor, not CM, CM is the head of the Government.' A fourth commented, 'That's factually incorrect. The head of state is the Governor. CM is the head of the government.'
