London organization hosts upcoming event to help senior cats find homes

Purrfect Seniors, a women-led non-profit organization in London which helps senior cats find new homes, is inviting the community to a free event on June 14. The event offers information about adopting senior cats and activities and runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 55 Doncaster Ave in London. Rhonda Walsh, the founder of Purrfect Seniors, said one cat, Nora, has already been adopted. 'Older cats are often overlooked in shelters, despite being some of the most loving and rewarding companions,' said Walsh. The organization, which was founded in 2024, helps senior cats find homes through a sponsorship program, which covers medical needs and special diets.

Mugs N Mittens holds adoption event with Marion County Humane Society

FAIRMONT, (WBOY) — Mugs N Mittens in Fairmont hosted an adoption event with the Marion County Humane Society on Saturday. The local cat cafe allows you to get a drink, including some specialty drinks named after the cats in residence, and spend time with some feline friends. Three cats that are up for adoption, Bill, Candace and Monroe, visited the shop today, mingling with the other cats and potential owners. Mugs N Mittens is also fostering another Humane Society cat Johnny, who is also up for adoption. Proposal at Mothman statue goes viral Shayla Pittman of the Marion County Humane Society told 12 News why events like this one are important. 'Mugs N Mittens gets a lot more influx of people than we do,' Pittman said. 'So it's nice to have people be able to come here and see what cats we have for adoption outside of the shelter. It also kind of gives them a chance to see how they interact, with other people besides just the people that are coming in and out of the shelter every day.' Mugs N Mittens Co-owner Morgan Boyle told 12 News that she plans to host many more adoption events at the shop. Next week they'll be hosting Doddridge County Humane Society for a 'plant auction' in which there will also be adoptable cats. You can follow Mugs N Mittens and the Marion County Humane Society on Facebook to keep up with its events. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tuxedo cat Cupcake is a special treat

Always ready for an elegant gathering, Cupcake wears her tuxedo at all times in the hopes she'll be invited out on the town (or at least away from the shelter). This cat has taken life's sudden upheavals in stride, such as when her former owner was hospitalized and she lost her home. Shipshape and well-groomed, Cupcake was considered 'unfriendly' when she first came to ARK. But over time, she has proven to be very affectionate — just discerning. She just wants to give and receive affection on her own terms, when the time is right. She expresses herself vocally and knows how to assert herself around other cats. As the only cat in her former home, she seems to be accustomed to the lifestyle. Perhaps best suited for a household without other cats, Cupcake has demonstrated that she is full of affection — just on her own terms. | Kanae Shirai Cupcake arrived at ARK less than two months ago right around her 10th birthday. The shock and disbelief at suddenly losing her home must have been very difficult emotionally. One ARK insider and something of a 'cat whisperer' says, 'When Cupcake finds a home with someone who will cater to her needs and give her affection when she wants it, she's going to be a very happy cat.' A cupcake with a twist — lots of flavor and spice, not overly sweet — this girl will be a devilishly delightful sweetheart for someone who knows how to treat her. If you are interested in adopting, email ARK at Tokyoark@ or call 050-1557-2763 (English or Japanese) Monday to Saturday (bilingual) for more information. Animal Refuge Kansai (with offices in Kansai and Tokyo) is an NPO founded by U.K. native Elizabeth Oliver. It is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming abandoned animals. All animals are vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Prospective owners are required to undergo a screening process. Web:
