BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — In this week's edition of 'All About Alabama, we are exploring caves as people are searching for cool and adventurous places to visit in the summer. It's made for the thrill seekers expecting to layer up with equipment, crawl through tight spaces and get a little dirty while having full reign inside a deep cave. The park is filled with untampered history and unique memories ready to be made. Located just outside of Childersburg is the popular Majestic Caverns, also known as 'Alabama's Big Cave.' Visitors will discover the Great Onyx Cathedral, the cavern's 120-foot-tall central room that sits beneath over 20 additional attractions above ground for the entire family to enjoy. Formed from an ancient river that leads to a twisty descent deep underground, the state park is simply breathtaking. It contains historic fossils from ocean life dating back to the stone ages, all of which is easily accessible for anyone seeking an unforgettable cave exploration. All About Alabama: Top camping sites to visit
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Continuing our new weekly series, 'All About Alabama,' we're taking a look at some of the best camping sites across central Alabama. Sitting at the highest elevation in Alabama at over 2,400 feet, this park has beautiful campsites with lookout spots for primitive campers and forested regions for RV camping. Hidden just outside of the Birmingham metro is the beautiful Oak Mountain State Park which offers both primitive and RV lakeside camping with access to dozens of nearby trailheads and water recreation. Combining historic landmarks with camping is Tannehill State Park, one of the most unique outdoor places to offer across central Alabama, providing tons of activities for the kids and families in addition to creek-side camping.
