New coffee shop already looking to the future
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – VooDoo Coffee opened in the Hillcrest Plaza on North Minnesota Avenue three months ago. It's a location owner Shah Afrouzi is familiar with as he also owns the Shop N Cart and Neon Casino. South Dakota lost one of its legendary football players this week 'I wanted to just be part of the culture of coffee. I love what I've done so far with the VooDoo brand,' Afrouzi said. 'You know, I have a diverse background — my mom's Italian, my dad is Turkish — and I've seen different cultures, I've seen different coffee shops around the world and I just got inspired. I wanted to create a space where people come together.' You can find diversity in the VooDoo products as well, from Cuban coffee to Persian tea. 'Persian tea is a chai, it's very traditional, very traditional. It's different than anything you're used to,' Afrouzi said. Along with the drinks, there's also a lounge area and the VooDoo Kitchen. 'Every morning around 8 am to 10 am, we do breakfast. I like to make my favorite breakfast of the kitchen, it's called this loaded breakfast homestyle sandwich,' assistant manager Kristina Stands aid. 'It has bacon, sausage, egg, hashbrown and just wheat bread or white bread on top of it.' Even though VooDoo Coffee is still new to Sioux Falls, Afrouzi already has his eyes on what comes next. 'I want VooDoo to be a cornerstone in Sioux Falls, we are looking at expanding, you know, we are looking at other locations,' Afrouzi said. 'VooDoo is a brand that I'm creating right now, I just want to be part of the culture in Sioux Falls because I'm going to Texas, I'm going to open a branch there. We are going to Canada, I have family all over the world. So, we're making this grow slowly so I just want people to give us a try.' Afrouzi also sells supplies for hookahs at VooDoo Coffee, and though you cannot smoke in this location, he hopes to have a patio at his next one that would allow for that. He has also created an app for VooDoo Coffee that people can use to place orders. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Mazda Canada and the Coffee Association of Canada are encouraging Canadians to embark in local 'coffee tourism'
Mazda Coffee Tour encourages Canadians to connect through coffee, culture, and the open road TORONTO, May 23, 2025 Today, Mazda Canada unveiled its official Mazda Coffee Tour in partnership with the Coffee Association of Canada, inviting Canadians to explore their country through the lens of coffee, culture, and road trip adventures. Inspired by the family-friendly spaciousness and hybrid innovation of the Mazda CX-90 and CX-70, this tour encourages Canadians to embrace the open road and discover hidden gems in their own backyard—powered by vehicles designed for connection, comfort, and sustainability. The first-ever Mazda Coffee Tour features two carefully curated routes across Toronto, highlighting eight unique cafés that reflect the city's rich and multicultural coffee scene. From cozy local roasteries to best-kept secrets, each stop offers a taste of the communities and cultures that shape Canada's diverse coffee landscape. Rooted in Mazda's Move and Be Moved campaign, where meaningful moments are found in every journey, the Mazda Coffee Tour celebrates the joy of discovery through a rising trend: coffee tourism. What is Coffee Tourism? Coffee tourism is a travel experience centered around discovering and enjoying local coffee culture. It invites travellers to go beyond their usual morning fuel by exploring how different communities source, roast, brew, and enjoy coffee — all while supporting local businesses and connecting with people along the way. 'We're excited to introduce a new way for Canadians to explore the open road and connect with the vibrant communities that make our country so unique' said David Klan, President & CEO, Mazda Canada. 'At Mazda, building meaningful connections has always been at the heart of our journey, it's deeply rooted in our history and values. The Mazda Coffee Tour brings that spirit to life by celebrating local culture, supporting small businesses, and inspiring new experiences across Canada.' 'Coffee is more than just a beverage for Canadians— it's a beloved part of our daily lives,' said Robert Carter, President of the Coffee Association of Canada. 'In fact, coffee is the most popular beverage in the country, with over 70% of adults drinking it regularly. Our $8-billion coffee sector supports hundreds of thousands of jobs. As businesses face ongoing economic pressures, supporting local cafés, roasters, and retailers is more vital than ever.' Canadians' views on Coffee Tourism To find out more about Canadians' views on coffee tourism, Mazda Canada commissioned a survey and found that more than 60 per cent of Canadians are interested on going on a coffee tour—with 74 per cent viewing Canada as an excellent or good destination for trying new coffee beverages. Motivations for joining a coffee tour varied by generation: Gen Z viewed it as a chance to connect with friends and create social media content; Millennials were drawn by the opportunity to explore new coffee blends and flavors; while Gen X and Boomers appreciated the chance to enjoy nature and support the local economy. Other findings include: Mazda CX-90 and CX-70 Named Official Vehicles of the Mazda Coffee Tour Given coffee tourism's focus on sustainability and a passion for discovery, the Mazda CX-90 and CX-70 have been named the official vehicles of the Mazda Coffee Tour. ‘So good': Why Aussies secretly prefer to drink Macca's coffee
A McDonald's chef has revealed why the coffee served by the fast-food giant 'tastes better' than anywhere else. Macca's sells an average of 600,000 cups of coffee per day, which represents about one in every four coffees sold in the country every 24 hours. But while Australia is the home of 'coffee snobs', many drinkers claim the McCafé offering is one of 'the best', despite the fact it is considerably cheaper than other chains and independent coffee houses. It's not just Aussie drinkers who are fans of a Golden Arches brew, with American's also claiming Macca's coffee is 'consistently good'. Now the global fast-food chain has finally revealed the secret to the cult drink, after Mike Lingo, the senior manager of menu innovation at McDonald's, gave a rare interview discussing its popular blend. 'Over the years, we've worked to perfect the blend to give it the delicious, great flavour it has today,' he told Fox News. 'From the selection of our beans and quality of our roast to the equipment we use, we're paying attention to all the details to help ensure the best result. 'This blend is specifically made just for McDonald's McCafé, It's a medium-dark roast with a full-body fruity, floral and chocolate note.' McDonald's uses 100 per cent Arabica coffee beans sourced from Rainforest Alliance-certified farms or from farms participating in the McCafé Sustainability Improvement Platform (SIP) program in all of its restaurants. In Australia, the beans are roasted in Melbourne, with Macca's stating the most popular coffee order is a cappuccino. Data shows a McCafé coffee is now included in one in 10 of all McDonald's orders globally. McCafé first launched in Melbourne back in 1993 in recognition of the city's reputation as Australia's coffee capital. Now, the brand has become an Aussie success story and global phenomenon, with more than 1000 McCafé's across Australia and more than 4000 in 60 countries across the world. Lingo, a professional chef and food scientist, said he's not surprised that McDonald's is appreciated for its coffee just as much as its iconic Quarter Pounder and fries. 'While people love our burgers and fries, when we first open our doors in the morning, we were a breakfast restaurant,' Lingo said. 'Nothing compares to starting your morning with a delicious cup of coffee, and we've spent decades perfecting it.'
