Overcompensating – Season 1 Episode 3 Recap & Review
Black and Yellow Episode 3 of Overcompensating starts where we left off with Miles at Benny's door. Miles came to bring Benny's fake ID, which he dropped outside the club. Benny is watching the Godfather and does not like the movie. Miles admits that he too has never watched it, and both their favourite movie is Jennifer's Body. They agree to chill sometime, and Miles leaves. Miles sends Benny a friend request online, which he accepts. He then rushes to Carmen's place and asks if they could hang out. Whenever Miles sends a message asking to hang out, Benny turns him down and rushes to ask Carmen to hang out. Then, Benny gets an invitation to join the university's exclusive top-tier club, Flesh & Gold. He goes to check if Carmen got an invitation, and she has not yet. Benny asks her to join him for lunch at the dining hall, but Carmen is not in the mood because it is her brother's death anniversary. His brother's friends are posting anniversary messages on social media while she struggles to find the right words. Benny goes to lunch alone. It feels like everyone, including the cooks and waiters, is judging him. Benny freaks as his mind wanders, imagining that the secret of his sexual orientation will be found out. Luckily, Miles shows up and pulls him out of it. Miles also got a letter and is excited that Benny has one too, since he will at least know someone at the club. Miles touches Benny's shoulder, happy that they will be at Flesh and Gold together. Benny freaks out again as his mind wanders back to everyone in the room, knowing that he likes boys. He jerks away and leaves the hall hurriedly; his food is barely touched. Left alone, Miles feels the same thing with the eyes all on him. He takes out his laptop and pretends to be doing something. Benny tries to get an invitation for Carmen. Peter says that the only chance Carmen has to impress is by standing out at the tailgate black and yellow party later that evening. Meanwhile, Hailee and Carmen have girl talk about fashion and outfits for the tailgate party. Then, Benny shows up and forces Carmen to join the tailgate party, too. At the event, Benny is acting weird. He shouts and exaggerates things like when Carmen eats four pot brownies offered by Chris. He pulls her around to join a bunch of activities. Meanwhile, Benny stops by the F&G pre-game. He asks the former keeper about his job offer at Hawksworth Financial. Unfortunately, Benny's grades are not looking good, so he might not get the offer. When he asks about the keeper's position, which he was just bragging about earlier to Grace, he is told that he has neither the influence nor the wealth to become the keeper. At the tailgate, Grace meets up with an old friend, Mimi. They used to work at the school's radio show together, and Mimi misses Grace or the lady Grace used to be before she got together with Peter. Meanwhile, Benny is still trying to get Carmen noticed. Carmen notices that something is off, so Benny tells him the reason he wants her to join the secret club, too. Carmen agrees to work together and chooses the 'Edward 40 Hands,' which she is good at. The game grabs the attention of the students. The rule is to be the first to finish the two bottles of beer tapped to one's hands. Carmen lives up to her name as the best in the game. In the excitement, Carmen crashes the beer bottle, getting both her hands full of blood. The crowd still cheers and chants her name. Grace helps a super drunk and dejected Peter back to their home. Carmen is taken to the hospital in an ambulance, and Chris makes Benny have some pot brownies. Benny is cooked after, and he can barely keep calm. Benny sees Miles, and the conversation he thinks they are having in his imagination is quite different from what he is saying. Benny then goes to the supermarket for some drinks. He feels like the shopkeeper is judging him, and he knows his secret, so he quickly leaves. Meanwhile, Grace listens to Mimi's late-night show while Peter is out cold on the bed. Elsewhere, Benny shows up at Carmen's room. She tells him that it is her brother's death anniversary. Carmen says she feels like a bad sister; she has not found the words to post on social media. Carmen says that she is glad Benny took her out to tailgate since she got to do all the things she did with her brother with Benny. Carmen asks Benny to join her in doing one last activity. She and her brother used to play a video game, so she asks Benny to play with her in his honour. Carmen makes it to the final round and posts a photo. Her message says that she got to finish the game, and her brother should have been around, or 'maybe you were.' Hailee arrives back at the dorm after a session with a guy she met in the ambulance. Hailee accidentally let it slip that Benny told everyone he 'titty-fucked' her. Carmen is angry at Benny for lying. At the end of the episode, Carmen gets an invitation to join Flesh & Gold. The Episode Review The truth came out, and Carmen and Benny's relationship hangs in the balance. The boys have been taking this desire to appear cool and masculine too far. There is Peter, who is realising the future he planned is slipping from his hands. He expects Grace to be at his beck and call, and it is annoying. She needs to figure out her passion and dump him. As for Benny, he has been using Carmen to hide his truth. He likes Miles, and the thought of being close to his crush scares him. His gay panic is so real and a bit funny. I hope he gets to feel safe enough to come out soon.

Carolyn Hax: Career-dazed college student wonders how people choose their jobs
Adapted from an online discussion. Hi, Carolyn! I've nearly finished my first year of college, and though it feels early, the pressures to intern and choose a field have started, from both my family and people at school. I've elected not to intern this summer, since I did the summer before college and want some time off, but I worry this might put me 'behind' others.
