McDonald's takes second bite at Dumfries planning approval

Burger giant McDonald's has submitted fresh plans for a second drive-through restaurant in Dumfries after its original application was recommended for company said it had revised its £4m proposals off the town's Annan road which were withdrawn in December last said the new application should address the concerns which had been raised by Dumfries and Galloway Council planning previously recommended refusal of the bid due to its visual impact and the failure to demonstrate that a more "appropriate site" could not be found. Andrew Crewther, senior acquisitions surveyor with McDonald's, said the revised plans directly addressed those concerns."We explored alternative sites at the Peel Centre, but one is already earmarked for Costa, and the other has permission for a much smaller unit that doesn't meet our operational needs," he said."The application also responds to feedback from council officers by repositioning the building and adding new tree planting to help soften the development's appearance and create a buffer from the A75."Alongside delivering significant inward investment and creating 120 new local jobs, the new restaurant would also support more sustainable travel by improving local access to a McDonald's restaurant."The revised planning application will be considered by the council's planning committee in due course.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Adam Fire Cat, a frequent candidate in local elections, has received approval to open a drive-through-only coffee shop in Fayetteville. The Fayetteville Planning Commission voted unanimously on May 27 to grant a conditional use permit (CUP) for the business, which will occupy the former Bank of Fayetteville building on School Avenue in the same lot as Mountain Man Supplies and Pawn. Fire Cat said he plans to operate the shop daily from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., with three employees per shift and three designated parking spaces for staff. The 4,400-square-foot building will require minor modifications, including a sliding service window, new outlets, signage and a replaced sink. The business will serve hot coffee and prepackaged food with no onsite cooking. Fayetteville man accused of attacking two unhoused residents while they were sleeping 'This business model is simplistic and will not require any special features of note to impact the building as it stands currently,' Fire Cat wrote in his CUP application. Fire Cat has previously made unsuccessful campaigns for mayor and for city council. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. McDonald's new site on A2 near Canterbury gets approval

Plans for a new drive-through McDonald's on a main road in Kent have been approved despite some residents' claims there was "no need" for fast-food chain tabled plans to launch at the A2 London-bound Gate Services at Dunkirk, between Faversham and Canterbury, on the site of a former Travelodge 79-seat eatery will be next to an existing Costa Borough Council's planning committee voted on Thursday to approve the plans, with 10 councillors in favour and four against. Charlie Brown, acting as a planning agent for McDonald's, implored the committee to back the proposals, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service. "The application will help redevelop a brownfield site, enhancing the existing service area, creating over 100 new jobs across a range of full and part time roles," he Faversham resident Sarah Moakes said the site would "attract horrendous traffic, especially at tea-time" and would be a "magnet for antisocial behaviour".Councillor Rich Lehmann said: "Whilst new jobs are welcome we must also consider whether this employment genuinely offsets the potential negative impact on existing local businesses – especially independent food outlets in Faversham."Councillor Ben Martin said: "Based on what we have here I cannot see a reason to reject which would stand up to the scrutiny of an inspector."
