Minneapolis police chief calls federal law enforcement's actions "tone-deaf" after chaotic raid
Minneapolis leaders have addressed concerns following Tuesday's chaotic clash between protesters, police, deputies and federal law enforcement. It happened just before noon outside Las Cuatro Milpas restaurant off East Lake Street and Bloomington Avenue. The Department of Homeland Security says it was executing multiple search warrants and didn't make an arrest, calling the operation "groundbreaking." But crowds quickly gathered at the scene, many believing it was an immigration raid. City leaders soon released statements about the operation's actual purpose. "This incident was related to a criminal search warrant for drugs and money laundering and was not related to immigration enforcement," said Mayor Jacob Frey on Tuesday. Police and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office also released statements echoing the same explanation. During a joint press conference about their "Operation Safe Summer" plan, Frey and Police Chief Brian O'Hara said they didn't know about the operation until it was already underway. Sheriff Dawanna Witt said her office had some knowledge of what was going to happen, but she could only say it was tied to a "transnational criminal organization" — one of eight warrants executed across Minnesota linked to human trafficking. WCCO All said that while Tuesday's operation was necessary, it was poorly planned, and O'Hara criticized the actions of federal law enforcement. "I had concerns and I have relayed them to our federal partners," O'Hara said. "I think the matter in which some of it was handled was tone-deaf for the situation. I think there's no question everybody learned yesterday just how heightened and how tense the issue of immigration enforcement in this city is." Frey, O'Hara and Witt also slammed local leaders for reacting without the facts, emphasizing the raid wasn't tied to immigration despite the presence of agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Minneapolis City Councilman Jeremiah Ellison called local and federal agents involved "faux military clowns," while mayoral candidate and state Sen. Omar Fateh called it "blatant facism." "When things are tense and heightened and spiraling out of control, you need leaders to step back and gather the facts and deal with the situation that was unfolding," O'Hara said. WCCO went to Hennepin County District Court and found federal search warrants connected to the raid, but they were sealed. This story will be updated.

Family of man shot and killed by Orange County deputy asking for answers, accountability
The Brief An Orange County deputy shot and killed Tyrone Bartley during a drug raid at a Pine Hills residence, raising questions and concerns from Bartley's family and community groups. The incident matters as it highlights ongoing tensions between law enforcement and communities, with calls for accountability and transparency in police actions. The sheriff's office plans to release bodycam footage of the shooting next week, which may provide further insights into the incident. ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - The family of a man that was shot and killed by an Orange County deputy is speaking out, asking for answers and accountability from law enforcement. What we know The family of 32-year-old Tyrone Bartley and members of "Orlando Against Police Crimes" held a news conference on Saturday at the shooting site in Pine Hills, demanding the "full story" and accountability from the sheriff's office. The full circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear, and Bartley's family is seeking answers and accountability from law enforcement. The backstory Bartley was shot and killed by an Orange County deputy earlier this month during a drug raid at a house in Pine Hills. Deputies were executing a search warrant when they reportedly saw Bartley reach behind a door, where a rifle was found. The sheriff's office had visited the address two weeks prior for a domestic violence call, during which drugs and a stolen gun were discovered. The deputy who fired the gun is on paid leave. What they're saying Brittani Jackson, Bartley's girlfriend, expressed her grief and called for the truth, stating: "Please take accountability. Instead of painting this amazing man out to be the bad guy, just tell the truth and admit you made a mistake." Sheriff John Mina emphasized the dangers deputies face, stating: "This case just illustrates how dangerous this is for our deputies going into a home where we know loaded guns have already been recovered." What's next Currently, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting and will turn over the findings to the State Attorney's Office for review. The investigation will then go to the sheriff's office for an internal review. The sheriff's office plans to release bodycam video of the shooting next week, which may provide further clarity on the incident and the actions of the deputies involved. Ex-Bersatu member, wife in bid to recover seized luxury vehicles, items
Adam Asmuni and Lyiana Roslee are appealing for the return of cash, cars, motorcycles, luxury watches, handbags, laptops, bracelets, necklaces, as well as Amanah Saham Bhd accounts. KUALA LUMPUR : The High Court here has fixed June 30 to hear an appeal by a former Bersatu Youth member and his wife seeking to recover luxury vehicles and items seized from them during a 2021 drug raid. Adam Asmuni and Lyiana Roslee are appealing for the return of cash, cars, motorcycles, luxury watches, handbags, laptops, bracelets, necklaces, as well as Amanah Saham Bhd (ASB) accounts. Justice K Muniandy earlier allowed Adam's application to adduce fresh evidence to be introduced at the hearing in the form of bank account transactions involving the couple's printing company, Percetakan Alfa Gemilang Sdn Bhd, between 2014 and 2019. Lawyer Amirrul Jamaluddin, appearing for Adam, told the court that he could file additional written submissions to address the bank account transactions before the hearing date. Deputy public prosecutor Shahrizzat Amadan appeared for the prosecution. The couple was arrested by police on Jan 20, 2021. During a raid of the couple's bungalow in Ampang, police also found cannabis plants and bottles containing cannabis liquid. The couple was subsequently charged in the Ampang magistrates' court on three counts of trafficking and the illegal cultivation of cannabis plants. Police later filed an application in the sessions court here under Section 32(2) of the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, seeking to forfeit the items seized from them. Both Adam and Lyiana filed third party claims to regain possession of their items but their applications were dismissed in 2023. The sessions court only allowed them to recover RM3,250 in seized cash and ordered that RM28,513.97 out of RM81,468,51 in two ASB accounts be returned to Lyiana. The balance of RM52,954.54 and all other items seized were forfeited to the government. The court said the couple failed to adduce evidence that the BMW X5 and BMW 328i cars seized had been paid for by Percetakan Alfa Gemilang. It added that there was no evidence to show the company had made monthly payments to service loans for the purchase of the cars. The court also found that no witnesses had testified to Lyiana's purchase of the luxury watches from their respective retailers, nor did family members attest to having given gifts in the form of jewellery to Lyiana and her daughter. The court also said that a chartered accountant should have been called to testify whether Percetakan Alfa Gemilang ever paid income due to the couple into their ASB accounts. Adam sentenced to seven years' jail, lawyer says After the proceeding, Amirrul told reporters that Adam had pleaded guilty at the Shah Alam High Court earlier this year to reduced charges under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for the possession of cannabis. He said the court sentenced Adam to seven years in prison, computed from his date of arrest in 2021, and seven strokes of the rotan. Lyiana had her charges dropped after Adam pleaded guilty.

Feds found baby oil, lube, ecstasy inside Sean ‘Diddy' Combs' hotel room
A federal agent testified Friday about how disgraced hip hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs had baby oil, lubricant, drugs and cash stashed all over the New York City hotel room where he stayed to negotiate his surrender last year. The agents raided room 2115 at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan on Sept. 16, 2024 after Combs' arrest that day, finding bags of Astroglide lubricant and baby oil inside the entryway closet of the room, said Department of Homeland Security Special Agent Yasin Binda. The feds also found more lube in the bathtub and in the nightstand of the room, according to testimony from Binda and photos shown to the jury. A pill bottle of Klonopin written for 'Frank Black,' an apparently fake name, was also found inside a Louis Vuitton bag on the nightstand along with apparent 'mood lighting,' Binda testified in Manhattan Federal Court. Inside the nightstand drawer, were pink-colored drugs, which were ketamine and MDMA, Binda said. Similar pink 'mystery powders' linked to dangerous Venezuelans and reportedly loved by Diddy have recently blown through New York City's illicit drug scene, law enforcement sources have said. A synthetic drug, known in some circles as 'tusi,' has popped up in a growing number of recent narcotics busts, the sources said last year. During the testimony Friday, jurors were given the bag of pink drugs to look at and pass around. The feds also found $9,000 cash in a black fanny pack inside the room,' said Binda, who was part of a law-enforcement team that entered the room with a search warrant. During Binda's testimony, Combs put his hand on his forehead and patted his head while he spoke to his lawyers. Combs, 55, had been in New York City to negotiate his surrender during a federal sex-trafficking investigation in September 2024 when agents raided his hotel room. The fallen hip hop star had traveled to the Big Apple in anticipation of his arrest on federal charges stemming from a grand jury indictment, prosecutors and sources said at the time. On Thursday, lawyers grilled Combs' ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, about a claim that the Bad Boys Records founder doused one victim with lubricant that was mixed with Rohypnol – or GHB – before a vicious assault. She told the jury Wednesday that Combs once filled an inflatable pool with bottles of baby oil and other lubricants for a hotel-room 'freak-off.'
