Fort Lupton man redoing garden after hail storm destroys vegetables
DENVER (KDVR) — A Fort Lupton man is still in shock, 24 hours after his home was hit with intense rain and hail that destroyed his garden. Brian Martella said he couldn't believe what he was seeing as the storm rolled over his house on Wednesday, stunned that the weather went from sunny to the most rain he's seen in that area in only a matter of moments. FOX31 Newsletters: Sign up for weather alerts from the Pinpoint Weather team In two years of living in Fort Lupton, he said he's never seen a storm like this. 'It was pretty much relentless,' said Martella. What started as a sunny day turned to chaos in an instant. It started with rain, Martella's rain gauge filling to two inches in what he said was only about 30 minutes. 'I mean, it was an absolute downpour. It was, it was pretty bad,' he said. Water flooded into his garage in a video Martella captured, mud and debris still left behind the next day. But rain wasn't the only issue. 'We looked out the window and it was just pea-sized to marble-sized hail,' said Martella. He has several ducks and chickens, and they all headed for cover under chairs in the front yard. 'The ducks were running for their lives,' said Martella. 'I mean, a big hailstone could probably take one of them out pretty easily.' Those hailstones also fell into his garden out front. 'Our radishes, our carrots, our lettuce, our onions,' said Martella. 'Garlic and then tomatoes and peppers over there.' All of them, destroyed by the hail. To make matters worse, he planned to sell those vegetables at a roadside stand for the first time this year. Despite the loss, Martella plans to grow again, but that extra bit of farm life may have to wait another year. 'I don't know if it's gonna grow back in the time we want it to,' said Martella. Despite the damage to the garden, Martella is thankful that his home and the tools in his garage that he uses for a welding business were unharmed. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Bulldog Who's 'Had Enough' of Ducks on Her Property Proves She Means Business
Uh oh. Pancake's on patrol! The Bulldog was guarding her human's pool recently when she saw two invaders trying to weasel their way in — a pair of ducks! Well Pancake wasn't going to let that fly, nope, not at all. And now a video of the dog taking action has people cracking up online. The Bulldog was truly peeved when she came outside and realized the ducks were back. What gives! This is her home and she wasn't about to let these birds come and disturb her. The two birds were minding their own business, taking a swim in the water. Little did they know they'd be facing Pancake's fury soon enough. Pancake was really in a huff. She spotted the ducks immediately and decided that they had to leave — right now! First the Bulldog staked out her prey and then like lightning (or a Bulldog's version of lightning), she sprinted after them. Shoo, shoo! 'Pancake had enough of the ducks on her property,' the video's text overlay reads. 'So she decided to take action. Watch her predator instincts kick in.' Sadly for Pancake, she didn't get the ducks this time. But don't worry, pupper! Next time you'll get 'em good! 'What a close call,' the caption reads. People in the comments section couldn't help but laugh. 'Those ducks were almost pancakes themselves!!' joked one commenter. 'They weren't prepared for Pancake's sheer agility and speed,' teased someone else. 'We had ducks for the first time this year! Our dog chased them too! Pancake is so cute,' praised another person. 'She meant business! I can just imagine her muttering 'Yeah, you better…'' quipped another commenter. We bet those ducks won't be coming back anytime soon, not with Pancake with around. Ducks on a baseball pitch and other animal invasions
Fans at a baseball game got a quacking surprise last weekend after a pair of ducks decided to land on the field during the event in Missouri. The game, which was between minor league teams the Springfield Cardinals and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, was delayed as attempts were made to remove the ducks which decided to go for a wander around the field. The first bird flew away after being followed by members of the field crew, but the second one took a little more convincing.
