King Cetshwayo District a rabies hotspot
With several high risk and hotspot areas for rabies in KZN, pet owners are urged to practice responsible 'pet parenting' and have their animals vaccinated regularly. As posted on the Rabies Awareness Body in eShowe (Rabies) Facebook page, the two high risk areas in the province are eThekwini and uMgungundlovu municipalities, with King Cetshwayo District a hotspot towards the coastal areas. 'You can help by ensuring your pets are vaccinated. People wait for campaigns, but on any given day there are a great many places offering free rabies vaccinations,' said the Rabies body. Riding on the campaign, 'South Africa Awaits โ Come Find Your Joy,' this instalment of Africa Tourism Indaba will be hosted in Durban for the last time this year. It was launched on Wednesday and will be hosted on May 12-15 at the Durban ICC. At the launch, Councillor Nkosenhle Madlala, chairperson of Governance and Human Capital in the eThekwini Metro, said, 'We acknowledge the resilience and power of recovery that Durban has shown, following the devastating floods and unrest. We are glad to be celebrating our enduring spirit, as we welcome the world to our city. The Africa Tourism Indaba presents a variety of opportunities, heritage and innovation. 'The tourism industry faced challenges; however, it is thriving, this is a powerful platform and convergence of ideas.' Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille highlighted that KZN was the mirror of Africa's warmth, resilience and potential. 'In this spirit, we cannot wait to welcome various delegates from across Africa and around the globe to the eThekwini Metro in the province of KwaZulu-Natal for this year's Africa's Travel Indaba trade show. Africa's Travel Indaba is more than an event. It is our collective voice and stories echoing across the globe. From its origins over four decades ago as a local platform, Indaba has grown into the most vibrant travel marketplace on the African continent,' De Lille said. Chairperson of the KZN Tourism and Film Authority (KZNTFA) board Dr Sibusiso Ndebele shared, 'Our current contract for hosting ATI expires this year and we are hopeful that when the next contract is announced, that Durban and KZN will once again win the bid, as we believe that the city should be recognised as the permanent home of ATI. 'And this year's ATI is going to be even bigger than last year's showcase. As always, hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, taxi and shuttle and tour guiding services and shops will reap the benefit of hosting ATI in Durban.' Africa's Travel Indaba serves as a one-stop marketplace for discovering and sourcing a diverse range of African tourism products and experiences. With over 297 unique offerings, 1 200 exhibitors from across 26 African countries and 908 vetted international buyers representing 55 global markets, the event provides tailored networking opportunities and pre-scheduled business to business meetings โ already totalling 7430 confirmed engagements. Buyers gain unmatched access to curated, diverse, authentic, and emerging travel products for their customers. For more from Berea Mail, follow us on Facebook, X and Instagram.
