Sister Cities mural dedicated at Arkansas River levee
(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Sister Cities Commission held a special dedication on Friday evening, May 16, honoring numerous sister cities with a mural at the Arkansas River levee.
City leaders celebrated the recently completed Pueblo Arkansas River Levee Mural artwork at Pillars Park, which features each of the flags of Pueblo's sister cities: Bergamo, Italy; Chihuahua, Mexico; Maribor, Slovenia; and more.
Commission members said events like these help the community capitalize on the Steel City's diversity.
'Pueblo is a perfect city to have sister cities because it is such an ethnic community, and it is so full of ethnic heritage anyway,' said Michael Slaardino, President of the Pueblo Sister City Commission. 'So most of these sister cities come from countries that have provided people to Pueblo, to immigrants in the past years, like Slovenia, Mexico, and Italy, especially.'
Representatives from Pueblo's sister cities were also able to participate, including officials from Bergamo, Italy, and Chihuahua, Mexico.
