Mesquite man arrested after fleeing police and striking bicyclist, authorities say
A Mesquite man accused of striking a bicyclist while fleeing authorities after a domestic disturbance has been arrested and faces multiple charges, police said Saturday. Justin Bernard Johnson, 33, is charged with evading arrest causing serious bodily injury, assault – continuous violence against the family, and tampering with evidence, according to the Garland Police Department. Justin Bernard Johnson, 33 Garland Police Department Authorities responded around 9 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 6100 block of Bay Island Drive after receiving a 911 call reporting that Johnson had physically assaulted the caller, officials said. As officers attempted to stop him on Interstate 30, Johnson allegedly discarded drugs before speeding away, police said. During the chase, he struck a bicyclist, who was thrown onto the top of his vehicle. The bicyclist later fell onto the roadway before Johnson crashed into two stopped vehicles at a traffic light, according to authorities. He then fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away. The bicyclist and the driver of one of the stopped vehicles were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. Investigators also learned Johnson had an active parole violation warrant issued by the Austin Parole Board, officials said. The case remains under investigation.

Police chase ends in crash, kills one early Saturday, Grand Prairie cops say
One person was killed and a man was arrested after a police chase ended in a crash on eastbound Interstate 30 near Dallas early Saturday, Grand Prairie police said. Llonis Arevalo, 26, was charged with murder, evading arrest causing death, resisting arrest and collision involving death, police said. A patrolling officer had initially tried to stop Arevalo, who was driving a Chevrolet Camaro in the 1100 block of East Main Street in Grand Prairie, at around 1:45 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement. The officer saw Arevalo rapidly decelerating the vehicle and changing lanes in an attempt to evade police, officials said. The officer, believing the Camaro to have been stolen, initiated a traffic stop for a known violation, police said. After pulling into a parking lot, Arevalo fled as the officer began to get out of his cruiser. A pursuit onto eastbound Interstate 30 followed. The officer caught Arevalo in the median, where a 'prolonged struggle ensued' before backup officers arrived, police said. The driver of the stranded vehicle was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital, where they died, according to the statement. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the dead person once family has been notified. Arevalo is a 'documented gang member' who was out on bond for 11 felony counts at the time of the crash, police said. Grand Prairie police are leading the criminal investigation and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office is leading the crash investigation, according to the statement.

MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashvillian was taken into custody Saturday afternoon following a foot chase between two Mt. Juliet shopping centers. The Mt. Juliet Police Department said an officer noticed a 'suspicious, running vehicle' that was left unattended for over an hour at the Providence Marketplace Kroger on Saturday, May 10. However, the man allegedly ran away, sparking a pursuit that crossed Providence Parkway and ended near Jonathan's Grille, where police safely took him into custody. The suspect — described by officials as a 23-year-old man from Nashville — faces multiple charges, including evading arrest, resisting arrest, driving without a license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Not only did law enforcement seize a temporary tag, but they discovered the vehicle had been unregistered for more than 18 months, according to law enforcement. ⏩ 'We appreciate our vigilant officers, always keeping an eye on our community so that our community can thrive, feel safe, and live without fear,' MJPD posted on social media.
