England's biggest crisis club relegated THREE divisions after being left with no pitch and playing 70 miles away

TURFED OUT England's biggest crisis club relegated THREE divisions after being left with no pitch and playing 70 miles away Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) NO senior football club in England has gone from nightmare to nightmare like debt-riddled Farsley Celtic. But it's somehow got worse - AFTER the season finished. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 2 Farsley Celtic hope to set up a new groundshare for next season Credit: Rex 2 Celtic were not able to use their ground this season Credit: Rex Fans blasted an "absolutely crazy" situation as Celtic have been relegated THREE DIVISIONS. Crisis upon crisis has descended upon the semi-professional Yorkshire club following a failed decision to put in an artificial pitch at their Throstle Nest ground last year. It never got built - so Celtic played most of their 2024-25 'home' games 70 miles away in Buxton, Derbyshire. They famously lost ex-Leeds star Neil Redfearn as manager in February after just three weeks in charge. Controversial chairman Paul Barthorpe then departed - with Celtic forced to field youngsters on the way to finishing bottom of the National League North. But instead of dropping into the Northern Premier League, they have been booted all the way down to the ninth tier - the Northern Counties East League Premier Division. Low points of the season included a 6-1 defeat to then-bottom Needham Market - when Redfearn was absent without explanation. Women's team manager Izzy Roads and youth coach Phil Lake took the reins, with Redfearn later revealing he had resigned days earlier. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK Under-fire Barthorpe soon quit too after six years steering a club that had went bust in 2010 but reformed in 2015. Now homeless Celtic have been denied a licence to play in Steps 1-4 - the four highest levels below the EFL. The club said: "As a board we recognise this will be as disappointing for our fans as it is for us. It's not what we wanted. "But sometimes you need to take a step backwards in order to move forwards, and pragmatically we believe this move to be necessary to protect the long-term financial future of our club." One fan responded: "It's absolutely crazy that Farsley Celtic has dropped three divisions to now the 9th tier of the English football pyramid. "It's an absolute joke, should never have got this far out of hand." Another wrote: "Triple relegation to Step 5... what a mess!" However, a third supporter took a longer-term view. He posted: "Like any fan I want to get back up ASAP but we need time to stabilise behind the scenes and then get back up where we belong. "I'd say 2-3 seasons hopefully then we go back up with a sustainable model." While we could have appealed against this decision, the long-term future of the club remains our priority Club statement Celtic issued a lengthy statement on being booted down the leagues - insisting a groundsharing deal has already nearly been sorted for next term as they rebuild gradually. They said: "At the end of the last season we said our efforts would be concentrated around ensuring the financial stability of the club. "A season playing all our games away from The Citadel was always going to leave us with a financially challenging summer. "The debts facing the club have continued to mount in recent weeks. "We are in a situation where we have to be pragmatic. NCEL offers us significantly lower travelling costs and running costs in general as we seek to stabilise the club." Celtic are finally hoping to get a new surface so they can return home. Their statement added: "Our funding bid for a new pitch will be decided by the Football Foundation next month. "Our planning application for new energy efficient and reliable floodlights is being considered by the council and is subject to a funding bid. "A ground share for the start of next season is almost agreed, and we are still working on securing a lease for the ground. "While we could have appealed against this decision, the long-term future of the club remains our priority and a lot of work is being put in by the board and others to ensure Farsley continues to have a semi professional football club. "The long-term future of our first team, Deaf, Junior and Women's sides continues to be our priority."

Barcelona 3 Inter Milan 3: ‘Game of the season' leaves fans on edge of seats as Yamal, Raphinha and Dumfries run riot

LAMINE YAMAL will have to accept these Lionel Messi comparisons at some point. The 17-year-old supremo lit up his first Champions League semi-final as his superb spell diverted Barcelona from disaster before Raphinha's rocket saved them again. 8 8 Hansi Flick's men head to Inter Milan next week without any advantage, but they would have been travelling in need of a miracle without this little genius. After the torment of conceding the earliest semi-final goal in Champions League history, then shipping another, Yamal dragged his side back into contention. All that after Barcelona's biggest concern at kick-off being how long he might last. The teenager walked out of the warm-up early appearing to have felt something in his thigh. Very quickly the hosts had a lot more to worry about as Marcus Thuram dealt a sucker punch after just 30 seconds, with the most delicate of touches. Nico Barella collected a poor Jules Kounde clearance and fed Denzel Dumfries, whose cross fell perfectly for Thuram to apply an inspirational touch and make some history. The start went from bad to worse for Barca as Dumfries then took centre stage. Francesco Acerbi nodded goalward from a corner, where Dumfries twisted and fired in a bicycle kick as Pedri ducked out of the way. Inter had stunned their hosts with two goals worth of the Spanish club's greatest magicians. But they would end up being a footnote - thanks to the latest Barcelona maestro. Moment raging Ansu Fati kicks cooler and stairs in meltdown after Barcelona sub is made to warm up then sit back down Match Stats Yamal wanted to mark his 100th game in style and did not disappoint. A new haircut caught the eye in the Copa del Rey on Saturday, but his feet did all the dazzling here. With the hosts shell-shocked, one kid - not old enough to drink, smoke, drive or vote - stood up and took charge. 8 8 Match Stats Yamal shrugged off Thuram, the man who had dared take his limelight. He turned and brushed past Henrikh Mkhitaryan like he was an afterthought and whipped an instant classic of a goal in off the far post when it looked like there was nowhere to go. There was almost another all-timer to follow minutes later, leaving Federico Di Marco sliding on his backside before seeing a strike tipped onto the bar. 8 8 Barcelona were in full flow now and decided to share the load. Dani Olmo saw a couple of attempts stopped, but soon they broke through - Torres converting a tap in after Raphinha nodded the ball into his path. The noise and momentum was all with Barcelona, though half-time sapped it and gave Inter the chance to remember they were still level, if dazed. 8 8 Dumfries lifted Inter back off the canvas and into the lead once more with his second of the night - this one far more mundane, heading in from a corner. But again they could not hold on, level again via a stunning strike and some stinking luck. Yamal allowed a corner to run to Raphinha's feet, the ex-Leeds man unleashing a thunderbolt against the bar which ricocheted in off the back of Yann Sommer. Inter kept swinging, Mkhitaryan having one ruled out for the most minuscule offside before Yamal's mis-hit struck the bar and Raphinha had another tipped over. So much class, even more chaos and we are still no closer to knowing who will reach Munich.

Hibs have started talks aimed at persuading veteran attacking threat Junior Hoilett to sign on for a second season at Easter Road. And the Edinburgh side hope they can persuade the Canadian international that he'll play a big enough part in the new campaign to cement his place in next summer's World Cup. Former Blackburn, QPR, Reading, and Aberdeen ace Hoilett turns 35 in the summer. But he's played his way back into David Gray's first XI in recent weeks, starting in the last four games – including the 2-0 win at Ibrox – as Hibs extended their unbeaten league run to a record-equalling 17 games. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hoilett's family haven't joined him in Edinburgh, and his own intentions are unclear. Speaking last month, Hoilett would only say: 'I'm enjoying my football here. It's a great group and it's like a family here. 'I feel very comfortable here coming in, training day in and day out. I'd love to see what the future holds but right now I'm just focusing on the now and here and see what happens.' Former Blackburn, QPR and Aberdeen star wants to be part of ex-Leeds boss Jesse Marsch's Canada plans It now appears that the situation has moved on, with Hibs making solid overtures aimed at persuading Hoilett to stick around for another season – and make enough of a contribution to persuade Canada boss Jess Marsch to include him in the squad for a World Cup that will include games just minutes from the player's home town of Brampton, Ontario. Asked about progress on the Hoilett front, manager Gray revealed: 'There's discussions with Junior as well at the moment. Clearly you want to keep top players and top people at the football club if you can. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'He's done brilliantly, not just in the last few weeks. We've always known his quality, we've seen that throughout his whole career. 'But I've spoken a lot about the fact that, even when he's not played, he's been a really positive influence on the group. You can't imagine how key it is to have players like that within your training group every single day. 'He's certainly developed into that role model for younger players, he's taken a few under his wing, which is great to see. And I think he's in a really good place. 'He's enjoying his football just now, which is a major factor for any player. So the conversations are happening all the time.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hibs are constantly negotiating with a number of out-of-contract and loan players ahead of a busy summer, with Sunderland's Nectar Triantis also a prime target. The midfielder has been a stand-out in his second stint at Easter Road. The player's agent spoke last week about his client's priorities heading into next season, with a desire to be part of the Socceroos squad at the 2026 World Cup top of the list. Triantis won his first call-up to the Australia squad during the last international break, with new Socceroos boss Tony Popovic revealing that he'd been impressed with the 21-year-old in February's 2-1 home win over Celtic. Gray believes Hibs can offer Triantis the opportunity to be a key player in a team competing – he hopes – in European football and challenging for domestic honours.
