Sean Payton expects ex-Oregon WR Troy Franklin to shine in 2025 NFL season
Some players in the National Football League develop more quickly than others.
In the case of current Denver Broncos wide receiver and former Oregon football standout Troy Franklin, it took about half a season. But once he did find his footing in the Mile High City, Franklin was doing the exact same thing he was doing at Autzen Stadium, catching big passes and scoring touchdowns.
Head coach Sean Peyton took notice and sees Franklin's growth on the field as a promising sign for 2025. He saw something similar in another receiver on the Denver roster, Marvin Mims.
"I think you're going to see those type of ascensions with players like Troy (Franklin)," Peyton said.
Mims caught 22 passes for 377 yards and just one touchdown in 2023. But in 2024, Mims improved tremendously with 39 catches for 503 yards and six trips to the end zone. Denver's quarterback situation was a bit different with Bo Nix behind center last season rather than the often-injured Russell Wilson.
For his rookie campaign, Franklin had 28 receptions for 263 yards and two touchdowns. Hopefully, Franklin can have a similar uptick in numbers. If he does, the Broncos will have a nice 1-2 punch at the receiver position for 2025 and beyond.
