Former Steelers RB cut by CFL's Ottawa Redblacks — where will comeback bid take him now?

Former Steelers RB cut by CFL's Ottawa Redblacks — where will comeback bid take him now? A former Steeler's latest comeback bid has sadly ended — as the CFL's Ottawa Redblacks announced the release of RB Jaylen Samuels. Samuels, who was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, spent three seasons with the Steelers before he was released — and was added almost immediately to the Texans' practice squad in October of 2021. After signing a future/reserve contract with the Cardinals in January of 2022, he was released about four months later. Following failed stints in the XFL and UFL, Samuels held out hope that the CFL's Ottawa Redblacks would mark the start of his football comeback — but he was unfortunately released as part of the final roster cuts before their 2025 season began. If Samuels still envisions a football future for himself, trying out for another CFL or UFL team may be his best bet — but best wishes are in order for whatever lies ahead for the ex-Steelers running back. Ex-Steelers QB Russell Wilson says three qualities make HC Mike Tomlin special

Ex-Steelers QB Russell Wilson says three qualities make HC Mike Tomlin special While many believe HC Mike Tomlin's 'winning records' are overrated, ex-Steelers QB Russell Wilson would strongly disagree. Wilson, who recently appeared on the 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony podcast, was asked to explain what makes Tomlin a 'steadying force' in the NFL — and the former Steeler and current Giants QB had this to say: 'I think there are three things about Mike Tomlin that are special. I think the first thing is his ability, his obsession, and his work ethic. He's there early — at 4:30 in the morning — watching film himself. Like, head coaches don't do that,' Wilson explained. 'That's the first thing. I think the second thing is his ability to connect to players — his ability to have connectivity, his ability to relate to the Black kid, to the white kid, to the guy that's been successful, to the guy that's just starting,' Wilson argued. 'I think ultimately, the [third] thing that's really unique about him is, you know, the ability to embrace the noise — to embrace the obstacle. He stares it right in the face and doesn't run from it.' Tomlin definitely personifies hard work, relatability, and embracing challenging situations — but there's been little playoff success that has come out of it. Ex-Steelers QB Kenny Pickett takes subtle dig at Pittsburgh at Browns OTAs

Ex-Steelers QB Kenny Pickett takes subtle dig at Pittsburgh at Browns OTAs Kenny 'Two Gloves' Pickett had plenty of positive things to say about his time with the Eagles — but surprisingly omitted the Steelers from his comments at Browns OTAs. While speaking with reporters on Wednesday at Cleveland OTAs, Pickett claimed the Eagles taught him what success is supposed to look like: "I'm extremely grateful for my time in Philly. I think I was shown how it was supposed to be done — really from the top down. When you get a chance to see what it's supposed to look like and how it should look on a day-to-day basis — not just on Sundays — I think it'll pay dividends for me in the future." Pickett's comments mirror those of former Steelers RB Najee Harris — who claimed he learned more about being successful in the NFL on his own. The ex-Steelers QB should channel what he apparently learned in Philadelphia when he faces off against his former team in Pittsburgh during Week 6 of the 2025 regular season. Steelers rookie minicamp standout WR receives George Pickens' No. 14 at OTAs

Steelers rookie minicamp standout WR receives George Pickens' No. 14 at OTAs Say hello to the Steelers newest #14... Montana Lemonious-Craig. — 93.7 The Fan (@937theFan) May 27, 2025 Out with the old, in with the new — it didn't take the Steelers long to replace George Pickens' No. 14 in Pittsburgh. It was reported that Arizona WR Montana Lemonious-Craig, who signed with the Steelers on Day 1 of OTAs, was spotted wearing Pickens' old number on Tuesday. Lemonious-Craig attended the Steelers rookie minicamp a few weeks ago and clearly made the right impression, as Pittsburgh wasted little time bringing him onto the 90-man roster. Pickens' time in No. 14 didn't just end with the Steelers, as the ex-Steelers WR was spotted wearing No. 13 a week ago at Cowboys OTAs. While the organization likely didn't mean anything by it, Lemonious-Craig taking Pickens' No. 14 speaks volumes about the former Steelers wideout making himself both expendable and replaceable with his constant on- and off-the-field antics. Will Lemonious-Craig exceed expectations at OTAs — and potentially training camp — to earn himself and his new No. 14 a spot on the Steelers' 53-man roster?

UFL HC says ex-Steelers WR Tyler Vaughns is NFL ready — will he reunite with Pittsburgh?

UFL HC says ex-Steelers WR Tyler Vaughns is NFL ready — will he reunite with Pittsburgh? Ex-Steelers WR Tyler Vaughns has put the UFL on notice — and with Pittsburgh's offense sorely needing all the receiver help it can get, is a reunion in the Steel City really that far-fetched? The former USC Trojan struggled to find his footing in the NFL right after college — signing with the Colts in 2021 as an undrafted free agent, before being quickly scooped up by the Steelers and joining Pittsburgh's practice squad soon after. Vaughns put together a fantastic 2022 preseason performance — but it wasn't enough to make the Steelers' 53-man roster, as he was released before ever playing an NFL regular season snap. He would, however, make an impact on the Arlington Renegades — as his offensive efforts helped propel the team to an XFL championship in 2023. He finished second in receiving yards during his first year in the spring league and led the Renegades in receiving for both the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Renegades HC Bob Stoops was recently asked if he would recommend Vaughns to NFL teams, and this was his response: "Oh, absolutely. Tyler Vaughns has been sensational — just makes tough, difficult catches. And you know, the DBs in this league are good players, too." Vaughns' one-handed, circus-like TD catch went viral last week — and he seems like a perfect fit to return to the receiver-needy Steelers in 2025.
