Police appeal for help in hunt for thug after 'mindless act' leaves Aberdeen defender with serious facial injury

Police are continuing their hunt for the thug who left Aberdeen defender Jack MacKenzie with a serious facial injury after throwing a broken chair on to the Tannadice pitch yesterday. The visibly-distressed 24-year-old needed lengthy medical treatment following an incident which has shocked Scottish football. The broken chair was hurled from a section of the ground housing Dons supporters after Dundee United fans had invaded the pitch to celebrate their team's European qualification following a 2-1 win. In disgraceful scenes, the missile struck unused substitute MacKenzie, causing a nasty head wound which required stitches. The player was wheeled away on a medical trolley with a bandaged head. It was just the latest in a spate of shameful incidents of fan disorder which have blighted Scottish football and brought widespread condemnation from across the game. United boss Jim Goodwin branded the episode an 'absolute disgrace', while Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin admitted it was 'totally unacceptable'. In a strongly-worded statement, the Pittodrie club vowed to take the strongest possible action once the perpetrator is identified. Police chiefs are continuing to assess CCTV footage and are working with both clubs to find the individual responsible. They appealed for information in the aftermath and asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage to contact them. However, they confirmed today that no arrests have yet been made nor suspects identified. Speaking yesterday, match commander Superintendent Ray Birnie described the incident as 'a mindless act'.

Bundesliga Club Heidenheim Accuses Berlin Police of 'Extreme Violence' Against its Fans

Bundesliga club Heidenheim has accused Berlin police of extreme violence leaving some of its fans needing medical treatment following Saturday's game at Union Berlin. Five Heidenheim supporters were arrested and three of them charged, two for alleged vandalism and another for alleged insulting behavior, the police told news agency dpa on Sunday. The club said the police detained several of its supporters before the match for the 'unauthorized posting of stickers during the fan march, which had previously passed without incident.' 'The police also acted with extreme violence without any apparent reason or clear communication after the game, directly before we left the guests' parking lot,' Heidenheim board member Petra Saretz said in a club statement, according to The Associated Press. The incidents before the match led Heidenheim's supporters to refrain from active support during the match, which the team won 3-0 to be sure of at least a relegation playoff. 'We feel obligated to call out the disproportionate violence used by Berlin police against Heidenheim fans yesterday and hope therefore that the authorities will provide clarification for this incomprehensible action,' said Heidenheim chairman Holger Sanwald, who thanked Union staff and others for their support during the incidents.

Sevilla players forced to sleep at training ground after ‘extreme violence' from fans

Sevilla have condemned fan behaviour after their players were forced to sleep at the club's training ground following "extreme violence" in reaction to their 3-2 defeat by Celta Vigo. The seven-time Europa League champions have endured another difficult season and sit 16th in La Liga, just four points above the relegation zone. Footage on social media showed fans with pyrotechnics outside the training ground and the main gate being damaged. The club said they "will pursue the public naming of employees and the dissemination of private data on social media and in the media, acts that constitute criminal offences". A club statement read: "Sevilla understand the team's sporting situation, which is not what any Sevilla fan wants, may lead to protests, but under no circumstances will they be tolerated if they are accompanied by aggression, threats or acts of vandalism. "Sevilla requests that the security forces and corps are as diligent as possible in order to get to the final perpetrators of these despicable acts, perpetrated by a gang of organised radicals who acted with extreme violence." The club next face fellow struggles Las Palmas on Tuesday before finishing their league season with fixtures against Real Madrid and Villarreal.
