The rise of one-on-one shopping at New York apartment stores
NEW YORK — Few spaces are as alienating as the luxury boutique: white and gleaming like a shark's grin, and filled with outrageously priced clothes sold by people who seem to assume you can't afford them.
So several designers and shopkeepers, in pursuit of something less, uh, predatory, have found an alternative: Why don't you come on over to their house, make yourself at home and buy some clothes?
