Former NFL star Taylor Lewan's humiliating first pitch at MLB game goes viral

Former NFL linebacker Taylor Lewan was left devastated after throwing a disastrous first pitch before Thursday's St. Louis Cardinals game. Lewan, who spent the entirety of his career with the Tennessee Titans, was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch at Busch Stadium alongside his Bussin' With The Boys podcast co-host and fellow ex-football player Will Compton. Yet after stepping up to the plate first, the Titans hero suffered a humiliating moment when he sent his effort miles wide of home plate. His left-handed pitch actually sailed closer to the first-base on-deck circle, where a number of people were watching on. Fortunately no one was struck by the ball, before a distraught Lewan threw his hat to the field and punished himself by getting down for some pushups. To rub salt in the wounds, Compton followed him by throwing a much more successful pitch straight into the hands of the Cardinals pitcher Kyle Leahy. This is the worst day of my athletic career and that includes the Chandler Jones game. I need redemption. — Taylor Lewan (@TaylorLewan77) June 6, 2025 Lewan initially warned social media about the embarrassing video that was about to go viral later that day by posting on X: 'Currently at the Cardinals game, and there's something I need to get ahead of. 'A video will be surfacing of me throwing a pitch from the mound. Let's just say… the haters are going to have an absolute field day.' 'This is the worst day of my athletic career and that includes the Chandler Jones game. I need redemption,' he later concluded, referencing the infamous time he allowed Jones to sack Ryan Tannehill five times while playing for the Titans. Lewan then added in another post: 'No excuses. We have to be better, and there will be redemption.' His pitching nightmare was reminiscent of 50 Cent's shambolic attempt back in 2013, when the rap legend also sent the ball flying wide at a New York Mets game. Lewan enjoyed nine years with Tennessee before retiring from football in 2022, earning three consecutive Pro-Bowl selections in that time.

Ex-NFL star Taylor Lewan has 'worst day of my athletic life' with disastrous first pitch

Taylor Lewan should stick to the trenches. The former NFL offensive lineman was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch at Thursday's St. Louis Cardinals game, and it was a major disappointment. Lewan, to his credit, threw the pitch from 60 feet and 6 inches away as he toed the rubber at Busch Stadium. The former Tennessee Titan, a southpaw, wound up but sailed the ball closer to the first-base on-deck circle than home plate, and several people were within striking distance. Luckily for Lewan, no one was injured, but a disgusted Lewan threw his hat to the field and punished himself with pushups. "This is the worst day of my athletic career and that includes the Chandler Jones game. I need redemption," Lewan posted on X, noting the time Jones sacked Ryan Tannehill five times. Even Lewan's former teammates in Tennessee, where he spent all nine of his NFL seasons, posted a GIF of 50 Cent's infamous first pitch from 2013. The two are carbon copies. But Lewan is primed for a better performance next time. "Not gonna dwell on comments about 'keeping my chin up' coming from someone without one. No excuses. We have to be better, and there will be redemption," he said in another post. Lewan was named to three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2016 to 2018. Packers quarterback Jordan Love is ripped for 'terrible' first pitch at Brewers game

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love showed some appreciation for another Wisconsin professional sports team, but fans criticized his effort. Love arrived to American Family Field in Milwaukee to throw out the first pitch at a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game on Memorial Day against the Boston Red Sox. But the quarterback's attempt at tossing the perfect pitch didn't come to fruition. To his credit, Love's throw did make it the whole 90 feet from the mound to the plate. The only issue was the toss was very high - to the point where it left the frame of the camera - and forced catcher Christian Yelich to stand up and reach to grab it. Plenty of NFL fans mocked Love for his poor effort - with many making fun of his accuracy. Jordan Love threw out the first pitch in Milwaukee today — JM Football (@JomboyMediaFB) May 26, 2025 'Any time the ball leaves the frame it's not great,' wrote The Athletic's Packers beat writer Matt Schneidman. 'Watching athletes from other sports try and throw a baseball for forever make me cringe. Expected more from a QB,' said one fan. 'This is pretty brutal from a QB,' a different fan pointed out. Another remarked, 'About as accurate as his average throw.' One fan joked, 'I think Carly Rae Jepsen had a better first pitch' - referring to the pop superstar's rough first-pitch attempt. Love will hope that his throws in the NFL season will be much more accurate than this one. Last year, Love and the Packers went 11-6 and made the playoffs. They lost to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card round.

See Dylan Dreyer's son Calvin, 8, throw 1st pitch at Boston Red Sox game

Dylan Dreyer is one proud mom after watching 8-year-old son Calvin throw the first pitch at a Boston Red Sox game. On May 17, Dylan, her husband, Brian Fichera, and their three boys — Calvin, Oliver, 5, and Rusty, 3 — spent the day as a family at Fenway Park to see the Red Sox face off against the Atlanta Braves. Before the game began, Calvin had the honor of tossing the first pitch of the night. Advertisement TODAY captured a video of the moment Calvin threw the baseball alongside his mom, who also tossed a pitch. Dylan smiled and gave her son a high five after. The mother-son duo then celebrated with Red Sox catcher Connor Wong and coach Jason Varitek, who caught their pitches. In another sweet clip, Dylan met the Red Sox mascot, Wally the Green Monster, who rewarded her by allowing her to sport his giant baseball cap for a few moments. Dylan also uploaded a joint Instagram post with TODAY that included an adorable family photo of her, Brian, Calvin, Oliver and Rusty posing together on the baseball field. The entire family wore custom Red Sox jerseys with the number 25. Dylan Dreyer and her family sport matching Red Sox jerseys at the team's game against the Atlanta Braves May 17. (Nicole Collazo Santana / TODAY) The game held special significance for Dylan's family as it marked Fenway Park's first-ever Celiac Awareness Night. Advertisement The TODAY meteorologist has opened up in the past about Calvin being diagnosed with celiac disease when he was about 6 years old. Dylan Dreyer and her three sons — Calvin, Oliver and Rusty — posed with Red Sox mascots Wally and Tessie. (Nicole Collazo Santana / TODAY) Before making their way to the game, Dylan posted a slideshow of photos of her boys enjoying some gluten-free donuts and visiting the New England Aquarium. 'Tonight is Celiac Awareness Night at Fenway Park!! Had to hit up the gluten free donuts at @kanes_donuts for breakfast first!! And the @newenglandaquarium too!' she captioned the carousel and added the hashtag 'backinboston.' The family of five watched the Red Sox beat the Braves 7-6 after a thrilling walk-off home run. Later, Dylan shared more snaps from their unforgettable day, including a couple of Calvin smiling wide as he tossed the ball around. I couldn't agree more buddy!!' she wrote in the caption. 'Hard to top today!' Advertisement She added 'Thank you to the @redsox for making this the most special day ever!!! And to top it off, it's Celiac Awareness Night!' Dylan previously spoke to about Calvin, whom the family affectionately calls Cal, suffering from frequent stomach pain before they received his celiac diagnosis. 'There was one time the pain was so bad that we thought maybe he had something like his appendix burst,' she recalled. 'He was hunched over in pain.' The family quickly took him to the emergency room. After multiple appointments and tests, Calvin's blood work confirmed he had the digestive and immune disorder. Advertisement 'I knew nothing about celiac disease. I knew a friend of a friend had it, and she couldn't eat bread. That's basically the knowledge I had,' Dylan shared at the time. She learned more about the condition and her family made changes to help Calvin switch to a gluten-free diet. The mom also filmed new episodes of the TODAY segment 'Cooking with Cal' with her oldest child, where they started to make recipes he could enjoy. 'I want him to still be able to enjoy food and not just settle for something,' she said. 'There's a lot of recipes that just don't have gluten. I can cook a lot that doesn't involve breads and flours.' Dr. Lisa Fahey, co-director of the Celiac Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, previously explained to that celiac disease is an autoimmune condition where 'eating gluten triggers an immune response, and that can create a variety of symptoms for patients.' Advertisement She added that the condition essentially causes the body to fight 'against itself.' Dylan said she hopes the 'Cooking with Cal' series can help other families also experiencing the same challenges better understand how to manage celiac disease. CBS News Chicago's Jim Williams throws first pitch for Cubs game at Wrigley Field

The Cubs took on the San Francisco Giants for the last of a three-game series at Wrigley Field Wednesday afternoon, and someone we know well had the honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch. That someone was CBS News Chicago's very own Jim Williams, who stepped away from the anchor desk in January, but whom you still see in special reports on our news. Williams is a lifelong Cubs fan, and he even worked at Wrigley Field at one time — as an Andy Frain usher between the ages of 16 and 21 back in the 70s. But it was a whole different ballgame — pun very much intended — as he took to the field all these years later. Williams' wife, Joyce, joined him on the field before he threw the first pitch. So did his former 4 p.m. co-anchor Marie Saavedra, and CBS News Chicago photographer Scott Placko. Williams said he did his homework and practiced ahead of time. "So Joyce and I went out to some local ballfields, and I tried to measure out 60 feet, 6 inches — and we threw the ball. It was going all over the place," Williams said before he threw the pitch. "So I'm a little concerned about this." At last, a PA announcement introduced Williams, and after a sustained note of suspenseful organ music, Williams threw the pitch to Cubs mascot Clark at home plate. "It's a whole different experience when you're standing on that mound," Williams said. "It's not exactly the local ballfield." So which other past or present anchors or reporters in the history of CBS Chicago have thrown out a first pitch for a Cubs game, or a White Sox game? There's no big, comprehensive list out there with an answer. But the record does show that Bill Kurtis threw the first pitch for a Cubs game on July 29, 2013, Gene Siskel threw the first pitch for a White Sox game on April 30, 1998, and Lester Holt threw the first pitch for a White Sox game on May 9, 2018. A quick web search also confirms that Kurtis led the crowd in singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" for the seventh inning stretch at Cubs games in 2000 and 2002, and Walter Jacobson — who worked as a batboy for the Cubs as a teen in 1952 and 1953 — also did so on July 24, 2011. Across town, Phil Ponce, who worked as a reporter for Channel 2 in the 80s and early 90s, sang the National Anthem for the 2013 White Sox home opener — along with his sons Dan and Anthony. In 2019, the Cubs posted a video their top 10 picks for ceremonial first pitches — featuring President Ronald Reagan in 1988; Cubs Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins, Billy William, and Ryne Sandberg all together in 2014, Bill Murray running the bases before throwing the first pitch in 2012, and Chicago Bears legend Walter Payton about seven months before his passing in 1999.
