Kayak helps rescue Ausable River angler who fell 20 feet
WILMINGTON, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) – A Virginia angler who fell 20 feet into the Ausable River on Friday and suffered a broken leg mere yards above a waterfall was safely rescued using an inflatable kayak.

Essex County 911 got in touch with forest rangers after receiving a call at about 5:00 p.m.. Forest rangers quickly arrived on the scene near the Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort and worked alongside members of the Wilmington Fire Department to rescue the angler from the river. Photos of the rescue can be seen below.
After successfully getting the angler to the shore, they were carried to a waiting ambulance. The entire operation took only about an hour.

The rescue took place on the same day New York forest rangers further south in the Catskills practiced swift-water rescue training. New York's Department of Environmental Conservation reminds people going to the backcountry to prepare and plan adequately, though some accidents can be unpredictable.
