Serious beach warning issued to anyone visiting Benidorm this summer
You could receive a hefty fine or worse lose all your belongings should you not follow these strict rules
Benidorm is a popular sun-soaked destination for Brits in the summer but a recent warning should put every tourist on high alert.
TikTok user frankthestagman, who regularly shares travel advice to his followers, has some top tips on how visitors to the Spanish resort can avoid hefty fines — and worse, lose all their personal belongings.
One of Spain's most popular attractions and it's easy to see why with its sandy beaches which are typically full to the brim with those after top-ups to their sun tan during the day. But did you know they are sometimes just as busy during the night, and not for the reasons you think?
Whether it's chilling on a sun lounger after having one too many, going 'skinny dipping' for a bit of adventure, or fooling around with others, it's not uncommon to spot someone if you keep your eyes peeled when the sun goes down. But before you even think about following suit, there's something you need to know.
In one of his TikTok videos, Frank alerts travellers to the costly penalties that could be incurred if caught on Benidorm's beaches after dark. It's a very sneaky rule that can cost you in more ways than one.
"You can get heavily fined if you're found on the beach at night after hours," he warned. "Being honest with you, I've never seen, or known of anyone, who's ever had an issue with that."
Frank also highlighted the risks of visiting certain areas of the beach where people often go for late-night escapades, warning of thieves dubbed "serpientes". They typically 'slither' under the sun loungers and prize away any valuables, like phones and wallets, that have been left unattended.
He advises people to stay vigilant, stating there's "a very good chance" this happens during late-night swims. So keep your wits about you and look after your personal belongings before they 'disappear'.
The TikToker explained: "The people that do that sort of stuff target people that are going down onto the beaches at night for fun. And, of course, those who are going skinny dipping, so be warned.
"It's a proper serious warning, because there are people who do it night after night as they're out there to steal your stuff."
Users flooded the comment section of the video, which has been viewed over 100,000 times, with confusion, questions and sheer shock. One remarked: "I'm only hearing negative things [about Benidorm] and I'm getting worried," while another questioned: "Wait, what, you get fined for going to the beach at night?"
"It also happened to me in Tenerife," someone else recalled. "I was sharing a loving moment with an ex and my bag got stolen!"
Any Benidorm visitors who choose to go to the beach at night should remember two things: there's a chance you could receive a fine, which typically range from €40 to €1,500, and you need to watch over your 'stuff' closely.
