Irish republican march to take place in Glasgow on Saturday

The Irish republican group, Cairde na hEireann (friends of Ireland), is holding the parade to mark the historic event that took place 109 years ago in 1916. Traffic restrictions will be in place on roads to allow the parade to pass. Read more: The agreed route will start in Shuttle St before going along Ingram St and Queen St, before turning left into St. Vincent Place, St Vincent Street, and heading south on Renfield St, Union St, and Jamaica St, and turning east at Clyde St, and heading along Bridgegate, up Saltmarket, back into Trongate, Albion St, Ingram Street back to Shuttle Street where it will disperse. It is estimated there will be around 200 people taking part in the march, accompanied by Irish Republican bands. Social media posts state there will be guest speakers from Ireland and Palestine and a function afterwards. A post states: 'Please join us as we remember Ireland's Patriotic Dead.' Events are held each year in Glasgow to mark the anniversary of the Easter Rising, when the rebellion against British rule took place during Easter, leading to the execution of several of the movement's leaders.
