GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The city of Greenfield is beginning gasline infrastructure work this week on Main Street and at several intersections in the area. The following intersections will also be addressed during this infrastructure project: Main Street and Chapman Street Main Street and Miles Street Main Street and Wells Street Traffic detail officers will be on site during this time to ensure that traffic navigates the area safely. Drivers will be able to continue traveling in both directions on Main Street while work is being conducted. Work will also be paused during upcoming holidays and events in the city, including Memorial Day, Pride Parade, and the Green River Festival. Greenfield city officials say that these infrastructure projects are currently prioritized over the Main Street redesign that will be conducted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The redesign is currently projected to commence in 2029. This past week, city officials met with Berkshire Gas and JS Rae to discuss dust mitigation and proper storage of equipment ahead of the gas infrastructure project. Routine updates will be provided to the public by the city as the project continues to move forward.
